Bachar is the best ally of Russia and the speaker failed to ask him what he knows of the Putin’s goals. Bachar woud certainly have cast a light on the Ukraina issue by explaining to our blind diplomacy that the two fronts Ukraina and Middle east were politically bound together.

That’s particularly sad, Lucian. You write as though there exists no long range geo-political interests in the ring-fencing of Russia, and wresting lucrative trade deals and financial capture of ex-soviet bloc countries.

Anyone noticing that all Russia’s battles are being fought on THEIR BORDER, and not half way around the globe in poor countries, as the U.S. currently embroiled ?? Ever wonder why ?

The population of Europe and Scandinavia about 750 million people. There is no way on earth Putin wins a broader war. No way on earth.

Oil has lost half its value in one year. So has Putin.

Ossetia, Crimea and Donbass, does Merkel REALLY believe that Putin will stop in Ukraine?..

They were suggesting this all way long, since the very beginning of this crisis! Namely, Kiev adopting the federal union with those lands in the East where pro-Russian sentiments are strong! So they can develop economic cooperation with Russia on their own terms, while the “pro-western” lands in the West would do their association with Europe, etc., etc. Having Federal arrangement like that in Germany, or the US – is that too much to ask?
Incidentally, such an arrangement would automatically give the Eastern provinces a veto right as to joining NATO…

But instead, Ukraine is unitary state”, bla, bla, bla, and we see Bosnia repeated all over again…

Ukraine is a wasteland Soviet dried up dog turd that has nothing to do with the West.
