And there are people who think this trash deserves an award?

It’s not high art, but then the Oscars never are. What the Oscars are is an homage to commercial deceit. We honor those who best fool the bulk of neutered society.

Yeah. And funny how the rednecks and ditto-heads need a successful movie to fix their failed war.

2 Trillion dollars. 4,000 young Americans killed. For fake WMD’s.

Not a single 9/11 hijacker came from Iraq.

They are still stuck on 7 years ago and Bush and full of hate and bitterness which is really because they hate their sick selves.

Mr. Steinberg seems to think that the only accurate depiction of war comes from movies that show soldiers as being tormented and conflicted about their service. I know many Viet Nam vets who despise the depiction of soldiers in movies such as “The Deer Hunter” and “Full Metal Jacket” because they are not accurate to what they experienced. But Steinberg holds those movies up as “Great war movies.”

Mr. Steinberg’s assumption that, “Great war movies… grapple with serious issues and profound conflicts” is to pigeonhole war movies unnecessarily. A great war movie can simply be the telling of one man’s story. Chris Kyle believed he was a “sheepdog” in a world of wolves. He apparently did not struggle with killing people he viewed as wolves. If Clint Eastwood would have made the movie showing Kyle struggling greatly with what he was doing then he would have not been telling Kyle’s story.

Mr. Steinberg and others can find fault in Chris Kyle’s belief system and how there seems to be many (at least paying movie going people) who agree with him. But to imply that ‘American Sniper’ is not an accurate portrayal of what real war is like is to ignore that war isn’t the same for everyone.

Oscars are just about as relevant as any ‘pop’ award. Just a bunch of insiders patting themselves on the back while true art is ignored by the masses.

And the audience is lame. A bunch of middle-aged men getting a boner about shooting people in a country that never attacked us. The Iraq war was a boondoggle and this is just more porn for the boondoggled.
