The proper response would have been to remove “marriage” from all federal sanction, and allowing everyone of whatever sexual or religious persuasion to get as civil license (simple Contract Law). If one wants a “marriage” one then can ask for a blessing from whatever institution apart from government that one desires. Fair to all and takes the government out of the equation.

Of course they also human so personal opinions will enter the equation. I felt his dissent was fair.
