Comments on: Europe just isn’t ready: Similarities between euro and migrant crises Mon, 18 Apr 2016 14:55:08 +0000 hourly 1 By: euro-yank Tue, 15 Sep 2015 06:04:40 +0000 As a resident of the EU for the past 25 years, I have agree wholeheartedly. The worst part of all of this is that the EU has a democratic deficit. For each of the major changes, Schengen & the euro being just two, the eurocrats have managed to avoid asking the people if they agree. Only Ireland requires referenda for such changes. And when the Irish voted against the EU (2001 & 2009) they were forced to vote again until they got the ‘right’ results. While I personally enjoy time saved when crossing borders and at currency exchange booths, the benefits do not outweigh the costs that Europe is now beginning to experience.
