MADRID, March 2 (Reuters) – Cristiano Ronaldo struck eight minutes from time to rescue a point for Real Madrid in a 2-2 draw away to city rivals Atletico on Sunday in a typically fiery La Liga derby.

Atletico had fought back to lead 2-1 and were closing in on a first home win against Real in nearly 15 years before Ronaldo pounced on a loose ball and fired into the corner to maintain Real’s three-point advantage over their neighbours at the top.

Real looking to bury Atletico’s title challenge

MADRID (Reuters) – Real Madrid can bury Atletico’s hopes of winning La Liga with a third straight victory against their city neighbours on Sunday (1600 GMT) that would leave the capital’s second club trailing by six points.

Atletico stunned their bitter local rivals 2-1 at Real’s own Bernabeu stadium in last season’s King’s Cup final and followed up with a 1-0 success at the same venue in La Liga at the end of September.

Ancelotti shaping up to deliver Real’s coveted ‘decima’

MADRID (Reuters) – When Real Madrid president Florentino Perez showed Vicente del Bosque the door in 2003 he could scarcely have imagined he would still be chasing a 10th European crown more than a decade later.

During two stints at the helm of the world’s richest club, construction magnate Perez has been through seven coaches since Del Bosque was discarded but in Carlo Ancelotti he may finally have found the man who can secure the “decima” that has eluded Real since their last Champions League triumph in 2002.

Barca pay 13.5 million euros in Neymar tax case

MADRID (Reuters) – Barcelona have paid 13.5 million euros ($18.53 million) to the Spanish treasury after they were charged last week with tax fraud in the signing of Brazil forward Neymar.

The Spanish champions reiterated that they did not consider they had committed any offence and said they had made the payment due to a “possible difference of interpretation” about how much they owed after signing Neymar in the close season.
