You're right about China - good point! S/he's already buying up bits of Greece and Portugal.

Against all this, I'm amazed at the apparent schizophrenia with talk of expanding the Union into ever more murky regions. IMO, Brussels should take stock of this current state before it finds it's welcoming China!

Everyone, except for the least of us, needs to have skin in the game (pay taxes)! Socialism is a failed world view to begin with and it's really broken when large percentages of the population work under the table and receive benefits (lie, cheatt and steal)! I blame this type much more than any of the greedy rich! A vision without aa way to pay for it is delusional and we're witnessing this in Europe and the US-and they call it progressive! Poor moral and ethics are to blame but are normalized by the progressives (moral relativism)!

I think some of the big holders of US government debt are working at pushing down the Euro preparatory to a USD collapse. It also seems that many of these entities are aiding ultra nationalist parties in order to damage the prospects for a tighter European Union. In a quiet way this seems to be official US government policy as well.
All this seems another version of the competitive devaluations and other forms of economic hardball that rocked the financial world before WWII.
Being the serious fiscal conservative that I am I also think the various governments will eventually nationalize the gold markets, again as they did in the 1930's.

Fiscal union will NEVER happen in Europe, because national governments of member states will become unable to buy elections and in return reward supporters with monetary benefits.
Who will want to get elected to a government without budget??
