Is the Lashkar-e-Taiba plotting another Mumbai?

July 8, 2009

The Jamestown Foundation, a U.S.-based think tank, has warned of a renewed threat to India from the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.

It quotes intelligence sources as saying the LeT’s marine wing may be planning a Mumbai-type incursion to target vital installations in the coastal states of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa.

The group is also reported to have funneled huge amounts of money from its Gulf-based networks to fund activities in India.

It is not the first time such a warning has been issued, since the attacks in November. The U.S. embassy still has a warden message on its website dated June 2, 2009, warning U.S. citizens there is a “high threat of terrorism throughout India.

India’s Home Minister P. Chidambaram wasn’t too happy with the advisory when it was issued, arguing the country was safe to travel. But if his own intelligence agencies are talking of a second 26/11, you have to ask yourself if you should not be taking these warnings seriously.

The Jamestown Foundation said the LeT was using the Gulf networks and hawala channels to route money for operations not just in India, but in Pakistan itself.

Is it a tactical shift to ride out international pressure that New Delhi has been trying to bring on Pakistan to act against a group long regarded as a ”strategic asset” ?

This week Pakistan has appealed against a court decision to free LeT founder Hafiz Mohammad Sayeed, accused by India of plotting the Mumbai attack. And simultaneously,  the United States moved against the group, launching sanctions against three senior operatives along with one from al Qaeda.

Some people are already speculating if the Lashkar is the new al Qaeda.

Why should anyone have any doubts regarding that? Isn\’t the purpose of LeT is to hatch plots against India? The attitude should not be to keep guessing whether it\’s plotting anything or not but to crush it. And the only option is to conduct covert operations.

LeT came into existance realizing that India will not honour its promise to have a pebliscit in Jammu and Kashmir ( a pending UN resolution ) and jawans have killed over 100 000 of kashmiris almost oblitrated the state and ravaged their diginity ( a very recent incident where Jawans of Indian army raped and murdered two teenage girls ) and killed many others in protesting the killings.

26/11 was a wrong thing to happen ? what would you do if the our own policies and people are involved in similar atrocities with our own people.

I agree with Ms Roy ” India needs freedom from Kashmir”, I think the time will come when we will realize it is really the case. The west, usa and europe probably would not want a war between India and Pakistan but a lobby in usa ( guess which ) and Isl wants war between Pak and India for its own gain and I think sometimes India wants Pakistan to nuke it as it has uncontrollable populaion.
US wants India stronger for its own benefit. If India is stronger tomorrow it will be reason for a weaken china as it can not finish. But a weaken China will give another 100 yeare to US to be Master of the Universe.

The wise thing here is to look for our own interest, interest for the region, well being for our own people. Why one should resort in killing and occupying and more killing and hatred as a result. This is like a spiral and vicious cylcle.

Lets Pray for Justice to Prevail.

“..India will not honour its promise to have a pebliscit in Jammu and Kashmir ( a pending UN resolution )..”

I often wonder whether those who make this allegation – of India not honouring a UN resolution – have actually read the said resolution and the circumstances under which the plebiscite was to be conducted.

What is Justice , Raja ?
Killing, burning and religious genocide, forced exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from their own homeland, by using an ‘imported’ terrorist religion ?
400,000 Hindus had been displaced and killed by Islamic terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, before the Indian army moved in.
Would you justify Direct Action Day, 1946 the same way you are justifying the 26/11 attacks ?
