Average Indian practices Austerity….tht is how we have been brought up…….It is the Politicians who lack any accountability lack Austerity……….

Austerity as an old saying goes, ‘starts at home’.

During my recent visit to India I have seen people using automobiles for going to as little distance as corner shops from their homes.

Mushrooming of taxis, auto-rickshaws, cars, two-wheeler on the road and the flaunting of wealth in IPL matches speak no more of India as a humble and frugal nation.

Gone are the days when everyone believed non-resident Indians were better off than resident Indians.

additionally self aggrandizement is a way of being in India, as we are SOOOOO busy awarding everyone and anyone on all our so called achievements…wonder if razzies or turkey awards can also be instituted for the useless spenders of the year category to begin with and can well be extended to include MANY such categories.

add to this the fact that there is often an in your face campaign launched outdoors, which goes ballistic especially when election have been held and won. this is an all India phenomenon, even if money from private players, enthusiasts and supporters it does cost a pretty penny.

in case this money is to be channelized in other ways, a sensible way should be thought of, as the last thing needed is the same money going to buy votes or grease palms.

According to some reports, the ads by Jayalalithaa cost over 25 crore rupees(4.5 million U.S. dollars) of public money! And media did not cover that at all, because they were getting business out of it.
