They are excellent, so entertaining and many times comes with a beautiful social message. I will vote for Rang de Basanti, which had so much of impact on our lives. :)

Covers some of the most beautiful movies ever made in India.

There are a few other movies that are worth a mention which i feel are absolutely brilliant:

(i) Saaransh (1984)
(ii) Mirch Masala (1985)
(iii) Angoor (1983)
(iv) Maachis (1996)
(v) Rudaali (1993)

Compiling this list is a job very well done :-)

however it gives credit only to the commercial cinema.

not to mention, parallel movies have contributed substantially if not financially to the bollywood industry.

two such movies which any art lover must watch are: 1)Thodasa Roomani Ho Jayen(1990)
2)Shadows of Time(2004)

though shadow of time is a german bengoli movie, artists and art should not be classified by their homeland.
