It will lead to lesser people buying the cigarette. Taxes have been proved to be one of the best solutions worldwide. I have seen examples of countries which have used this method and now very few people in those countries are buying cigarettes.

If one does not smoke, that is best for all and there will not be any need to be concerned about public smoking.

The smoking ban was introduced on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. But not even one person got arrested? Why? That’s because it was a national holiday! No official went to work that day. 😀 Having said this, I am yet to see an enforcement squad on a normal working day! If people are defiant then let them pay fine or end up in jail. They will remember not to mess up with the law again :). But your concept of smoking rooms is interesting. Never heard of it, but it will be a great idea. Pack all of them together. Honestly, for a non smoker it’s very difficult to sit around around a chain smoker. That smell! Indian govt should keep persisting.

There is also a difference between spreading awareness about how tobacco is harmful, and public smoking. The two must not be linked. Smoking is a matter of personal choice. People need to be also made aware of how it is not okay to put non-smokers at risk and discomfort. If one is aware of the perils and smoking anyway – it is an individual decision. If one is creating a nuisance for others – that is not acceptable.
