Yes, people loved “Lage Raho Munnabhai”. The story of a good-hearted gangster (played by Sanjay Dutt) turning to Mahatma Gandhi for advice is wholesome entertainment indeed.
But what’s the point of honouring the 2006 film with a National Film Award two years after its release.
Everyone knows that the 2005 edition of the awards were delayed by legal proceedings. And that in turn delayed the 2006 awards by an extra year. But should the trend continue?
Announcing the winners simultaneously for both 2006 and 2007 on Tuesday could have been one solution. Of course the winners might not have liked to share the spotlight.
Perhaps the jury should announce the winners for 2007 later this year. That way both sets of winners would get enough time to parade their trophies and enjoy media attention.
Whatever the solution, one has to be found quickly. Or else it’s a long long wait till June next year to find out who won in 2007.

I agree. When I heard the news, I wondered why Munnabhai had got it since the film had released such a long time ago. The excitement certainly reduces with the delay.
- Posted by UpasanaTo the risk to sounding cynical, I have to say who cares for National awards anymore. They are so often delayed and have been controversial on a number of occasions. Never heard a movie went on the become a hit after receiving a national award (unlike an oscar winning movie). Awarding a 2006 movie in 2008 just reflects the pace of our bureaucracy.
- Posted by GovindI really agree to what Tony say’s.The national ward is considered as the highest award given in indian cinema. They should announce 2007 winners soon. Otherwise,no body will be interested for it.There are some people who still excepts and respects even now.The jury should announce the results fast atleast for them
