We are largely animals. We want more and different sex. We can suppress it a fair amount to make society function, and Judeo-Christian ethics were created to deify that suppression, and raise it to outright repression. But of course, the desire is there, and one way or another, directly or indirectly, more pathological or less pathological, it will surface.

If you doubt that at all, ask why else we continue to drown in new coverage of the Petraeus scandal? Deep concern about compromised state secrets? Please, be serious.

Men have behaved in similar fashion, and women too, in every known society in history, yet we somehow believe that, as a nation, we can spray over this sexual behavior and make it as our rulers wish it to be.

Americans do not approve of reality.

Among other things, we learned that there’s a war going on in Afghanistan:

Petraeus won’t be getting an invite to the White House Christmas party this year. The joke is that this “episode” isn’t really about an illicit affair.
That’s what we’re being told, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that there’s more here. First of all, we can assume that Petraeus and the Obama Administration are not friends. Given his two most recent positions, Petraeus probably has information about the goings on within the Administration that would make this current sex scandal look like nothing more than tabloid gossip. For the sake of our nation, let’s hope a little truth trickles out of Washington in the not too distant future.
