This week’s Best of Britain photos are about people in, or trying to take the lead, whether it’s David Cameron laughing during the Conservative party conference or a streaker proudly strutting through the greens of Celtic Manor. There’s also photos of former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf talking about his potential return to Pakistani politics as well as European team captain Colin Montgomerie proudly displaying the Ryder Cup after his team’s win.
Also included are photos of a paper Buckingham Palace model, tourists watching the changing of the guard at Clarence House, and the tragic suspected arson fire which destroyed much of Hastings Pier.
This week’s Best of Britain photos involve reflections of the literal as well as the metaphorical. From an artist’s work consisting of giant upside down mirrors, mourners lining Wootton Bassett, a portrait of pensioners hit by the recent “death bonds” scandal, to Gordon Brown speaking at the Labour Party’s annual conference.
Also included is an image of Lehman Brothers artwork being auctioned, a costumed Ryder Cup spectator, as well as a man tending to the greens of Celtic Manor.
This week’s Best of Britain photos includes a variety of interesting faces. From a model with a painted landscape on his face, to Scots charging during a battle re-enactment. There’s also photos from both sides of the pontiff’s visit to Britain.
Also included is a football player’s celebration, Julia Roberts’ at her movie premiere in London, and a fund manager during an interview.
Many of this week’s Best of Britain photos deal with troubles on the horizon. From the Pope’s greatly anticipated visit to the UK and the associated priest abuse scandal, to demonstrators protesting on the 9/11 anniversary as well as a fan crying over the sentencing of her beloved music icon George Michael.
Also included are photos of a fly fisherman, Will Ferrell at his movie premiere and the smallest man in the world playing fisticuffs with one of the strongest.
It’s been a week of events worth watching. From Tony Blair’s interview with Andrew Marr to performers at the Notting Hill Carnival, as well as a protest against stoning in Trafalgar Square.
Also included are photos of people watching the fourth England vs. Pakistan test match, a couple embracing after a music festival, a view from the Millenium Bridge and a photo juxtaposing the old and the new ways of generating energy.
This week’s Your View highlight comes from Abdul Ramdzhani, who photographed a Muslim woman dressed in white praying at a mosque where the walls were of the same color. The deftness in which the photographer highlights the woman’s face amongst the white makes for an intriguing photo.
Storm clouds, whether actual or political take center stage in this week’s Best of Britain. From photos of a man unconcerned by darkening skies in Hyde Park to a woman in a field during a protest against a big British bank, as well as Liverpool’s Reina keeping watch on the pitch during a rainstorm.
Also included are photos of people in costume during the Fringe Festival, honour guards at the funeral for a fallen soldier, a police officer keeping an eye on Downing Street and sailors during the commissioning of a new submarine.
Hot air balloons fill the skies over Bristol, a motorcyclist flies himself over a stunt track and meteors light up the night sky over Stonehenge. Three pictures showing the aerobatics up in the sky in this week’s Best of Britain.
Also included are photos of a Chinese couple preparing for a wedding photo in front of the Houses of Parliament, Nick Clegg making pizza, a sentinel of a sculpture in Newcastle and a last beer for a lost friend.
Brits work hard and they play hard. This week’s Best of Britain includes photos of people doing both. There’s a photo of dozens of people seeking to break the world record for naked rollercoaster riders as well as suited up City workers heading to their offices with the Tower Bridge in the background.
There are photos of workers checking up on Big Ben and chimpanzees checking each other. Also included are grouse hunters, Fringe Festival entertainers and a laughing Prince Charles as he attends the Highland Games.
Unusual design is a theme in some of this week’s Best of Britain photos. There’s a gallery assistant jumping up to touch an exhibit shaped like a giant table, a model resting on artistically painted deckchairs, activists dressed like characters from the movie Avatar, and a rehearsal for the merging of digital animation and performance.
In addition are workers building new structures for the upcoming 2012 Olympics, an international jump rope competition, and participants of a triathlon in Hyde Park.
