Wal-Mart files U.S. labor charge against union
Nov 16 (Reuters) – Wal-Mart Stores Inc is taking its
first legal step to stop months of protests and rallies outside
Walmart stores, targeting the union that it says is behind such
actions.
Wal-Mart filed an unfair labor practice charge against the
United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, or UFCW,
asking the National Labor Relations Board to halt what the
retailer says are unlawful attempts to disrupt its business.

P&G plans to cut more jobs, repurchase additional shares
CINCINNATI (Reuters) – Procter & Gamble Co (PG.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) plans to trim more non-manufacturing jobs through 2016, on top of a 10 percent reduction target it should meet this year, and said it may increase stock repurchases to $6 billion from $4 billion.
Shares of P&G, a component of the Dow Jones industrial average .DJI, gained about 17 cents to $66.70 in early trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
Wal-Mart employees to pay more for health care plans
Nov 12 (Reuters) – Wal-Mart Stores Inc’s U.S.
employees will pay between 8 and 36 percent more in premiums for
its medical coverage in 2013, prompting some of the 1.4 million
workers at the nation’s largest private employer to say they
will forego coverage altogether.
In mailings sent to employees for its recently completed
open-enrollment period, Wal-Mart noted that its rates would
increase because healthcare costs continue to rise.
Energizer to cut more than 10 percent of workforce
Nov 8 (Reuters) – Energizer Holdings Inc said on
Thursday that it would cut more than 10 percent of its
workforce, or about 1,500 people, as it tries to rev up results
in its battery business.
A restructuring at the company, which also makes Schick
razors, was in the works for months. In September, Energizer
said it planned to cut jobs and expenses but until Thursday it
had not disclosed details of the plan.

Nov 8 (Reuters) – “Black Friday” arrives earlier than ever
at Walmart this year, with customers barely getting to digest
Thanksgiving dinner before holiday shopping kicks off at 8 p.m.
local time.

Target to showcase CNET reviews as it courts gadget shoppers
Nov 8 (Reuters) – Target Corp is bringing reviews
from tech news website CNET into its aisles in time for the
holiday season as it tries to stand out from a crowd of stores
and websites selling a mix of new gadgets.
The partnership between the discount chain and CNET, a
website popular with gadget enthusiasts and known for its
consumer electronics reviews, kicks off this week after a small
test this spring showed that Target’s shoppers appreciated
getting third-party reviews in stores.

(Reuters) – Walmart will kick off its holiday sales rush at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving, its earliest start ever, and will guarantee that those who line up can buy a trio of gadgets as it places a big bet that shoppers are ready to spend this holiday season.
The holiday season is critical for Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), the world’s largest retailer, and its Walmart U.S. division. More than a quarter of its annual sales come during the holiday season.
CVS posts higher profit, raises 2012 forecast
Nov 6 (Reuters) – CVS Caremark Corp posted a higher
quarterly profit and raised its expectations for the year on
Tuesday as it filled more prescriptions with generic medicines
and its drugstores held onto former Walgreen patrons.
The company has been working on keeping customers who
switched to its stores during an impasse between larger
drugstore rival Walgreen Co and pharmacy benefits
manager competitor Express Scripts Holding Co.
Walgreen adds ‘green’ line to private-label push
Nov 5 (Reuters) – Walgreen Co is bringing out its
own line of household goods with no harmful chemicals, the
latest step in its push to add more store brands and
differentiate itself from competitors.
Walgreen’s first 24 baby and personal care products,
cleaners, paper products and compact fluorescent light bulbs
under the Ology name will hit its more than 7,900 drugstores
this week.
