Lewandowski knock unlikely to dent Dortmund focus

BERLIN (Reuters) – An injury scare to Bundesliga top scorer Robert Lewandowski is unlikely to derail unbeaten Borussia Dortmund’s focus ahead of their Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid on Wednesday as they bid for their first final spot since 1997.

Poland international Lewandowski, who scored for a 12th consecutive league game in their 2-0 win against Mainz 05 on Saturday, picked up a knock on his thigh but said he hoped to be fit in time for the match in Dortmund.

Germany does not have Spanish syndrome – Watzke

BERLIN (Reuters) – Though the Bundesliga has become a two-horse race between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich in recent seasons, fears that it might suffer the fate of Spain are unfounded, Dortmund boss Hans-Joachim Watzke said on Friday.

Champions League semi-finalists Dortmund, who take on Spain’s Real Madrid on Wednesday in the first leg, won back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012 before surrendering the trophy to fellow semi-finalists Bayern this season.

Eintracht host Schalke as European race heats up

BERLIN (Reuters) – Eintracht Frankfurt have achieved their season aim of staying clear of the relegation zone but the promoted side are desperate to get their push for Champions League football back on track after a recent run of poor form.

Eintracht will be eager to recover quickly from last week’s defeat to Augsburg and a home victory over fourth-placed Schalke 04 on Saturday would take them within a point of their opponents in the final Champions League qualifying spot.
