Motor racing-Vettel on top again in final German practice

NUERBURGRING, Germany July 6 (Reuters) – Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel was quickest once again in Saturday’s final practice for his home German Grand Prix as track temperatures rose ahead of qualifying.

Triple world champion Vettel, who leads this year’s standings by 21 points from Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, was also fastest in second practice on Friday when overcast skies hung over the Nuerburgring.

Tires behave as Hamilton and Vettel shine

NUERBURGRING, Germany (Reuters) – There was no sign of the tire blowouts which marred last weekend’s British Grand Prix in Friday’s two practice sessions in Germany with Lewis Hamilton and local hero Sebastian Vettel leading the way.

Hamilton, who won at the Nuerburgring two years ago with McLaren, topped the timesheets in the first session ahead of Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg while championship leader Vettel was only eighth fastest.

NUERBURGRING, Germany (Reuters) – Formula One teams have backed drivers who threatened to boycott this Sunday’s German Grand Prix if there is a repeat of the tyre chaos which rocked Silverstone last weekend.

The Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, which represents most but not all of those on the grid, announced on Thursday that they will not race if the blow-outs seen in Britain occur again and endanger lives.
