Vettel still searching for elusive home win

NUERBURGRING, Germany (Reuters) – Sebastian Vettel has never won his home German Grand Prix or a race in July, so this week’s trip to the Nuerburgring was set to be challenging for the world champion even before last weekend’s tire debacle.

The exploding Pirellis from the British Grand Prix have Formula One drivers on edge but talk of a boycott in Germany has been played down with the Italian firm saying rear tires will be made stronger in the short turnaround from Silverstone.

Real’s Ancelotti raises eyebrows as a born winner

By Mark Meadows

(Reuters) – New Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti can be both shy and charming, twitchy yet composed, but one certainty is his continued ability to win top trophies with different clubs.

The 54-year-old has left the easy riches of Paris St Germain for the Bernabeu because he loves new challenges and Real hope he can gather silverware as quickly as he did at Chelsea, winning a league and cup double in his first season in 2010.

Kirsten leaves South Africa no wiser about ‘choke’ habit

LONDON (Reuters) – Choke is a word which has haunted South African cricket for three decades but rather than shy away from it, departing coach Gary Kirsten has embraced the term in a bid to end their semi-final hoodoo.

Wednesday’s heavy Champions Trophy semi-final defeat by England at The Oval, where the Proteas could only score 175 all out in a seven-wicket defeat, was an eighth last-four loss out of nine played in major tournaments.

South Africa bowled out for 175 by England in semi

LONDON (Reuters) – South Africa risked ‘choking’ in yet another semi-final after England ripped through their ranks to restrict them to 175 all out from 38.4 overs in their Champions Trophy clash on Wednesday.

It could have been worse for South Africa had it not been for a ninth-wicket stand of 95 between David Miller (56 not out) and Rory Kleinveldt (43).
