paul-allen.jpgVulcan Ventures, a company controlled by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, disclosed last week he plans to bid on U.S. wireless spectrum, joining a list of bidders including Google, AT&T, Qualcomm, Verizon, EchoStar and Vodafone.

Just what he plans to do with it is anyone’s best guess. The Wall Street Journal had a couple of ideas that ranged from keeping it for Allen’s other company, cable operator Charter Communications, selling it at a later date, or using the airwaves for video broadcasting.

Moreover, by keeping it under Vulcan’s ownership rather than the publicly-traded Charter, Allen can shield its plans from the public eye.

  • Facebook is soooo 2007. Time to familiarize yourself with new-ish Internet companies Etsy, Dopplr, Moshimonsters, Seesmic. Twitter’s on the list too. (Guardian)

One comment so far

They should really check out what we at Movidity Inc. have to offer.

Movy.tv is an immediately mobilizing multimedia UGC site. The transmission model we use is cellular network independent and bitrate adaptable. All content on the site and in our coporate application MMES (Multimedia Mobilizing Enterprise System) is fully searchable from the handheld. The site supports live streaming as well.
