Clinton? Obama? Either works for News Corp
News Corp chief Rupert Murdoch has attracted plenty of attention over the years for using his New York Post to batter Democratic Senator, former First Lady and current presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton — and then warming up to her. But when it comes to the rivalry between her and her challenger, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, either one will do as far as News Corp is concerned.
Here’s what Chief Operating Officer Peter Chernin said in Phoenix on Wednesday about the close race between Clinton and Obama:
Putting my personal feelings aside, I believe it’s a horse race and I believe it’s a tremendous positive for the local television business.
And it’s about to get better. Twenty-two states hold contests on Feb. 5, otherwise known as Super Tuesday, and some of those states house News Corp’s local television affiliates that are just dying to run some hardball political advertising, Chernin said.
They (the candidates) both have, give or take, $100 million. … It’s a fight to the death between them, and it’s hopefully a real positive for the local television stations.
Fight to the death; it’s a good thing.

Sir: Isn’t the choice (for the Democratic presidential candidacy) one between the devil and the deep blue sea? CHANGE what? Platitudes, slogans, blah-blahs?
This is not a horse race, this is a sad case your either strong or not we are at war this is not a time to be crying expecially when you voted for the war in the first place.
THE MEDIA IS PLAYING A GAME WITH THE LIVES OF OUR CHILDREN. THE MEDIA HAS MADE A DARLING OUT OF OBAMA AND RIDICULED HILLARY. JEALOUSY KNOWS NO BOUNDS.
THE REPUBLICAN DOMINATED MEDIA IS AFRAID OF HILLARY BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT BEAT HER SO THEY ARE TRYING EVERY POSSIBLE WAY TO DEFEAT HER ALONG THE WAY.
THE MEDIA WILL CHEW OBAMA UP WITH ALL HIS INCONSISTENCIES AND LACK OF ANY RECORD.
HILLARY HAS BEEN WORKING FOR THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY FOR A LONG TIME. OBAMA IS A FLIPPER AND AN OPPORTUNIST. HE WROTE A PAPER AGAINST THE WAR IN 2002 WHEN HE WAS NOT A SENATOR FOR ATTENTION. HE THEN CHANGED HIS MIND AT THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION AND SAID HIS VIEWS ON THE IRAQ WAR WAS ABOUT THE SAME AS BUSH’S. HE CLAIMS HE DID NOT CONTINUE WITH HIS CONVICTION BECAUSE IT WAS NOT POLITICALLY CONVENIENT AT THE TIME. AN OPPORTUNIST. NOW HE SAYS HE’S AGAINST THE WAR. ISN’T NATURAL THAT KERRY WOULD BE BACKING HIM? FLIPPERS LOVE FLIPPERS. WATCH YOUR BACK.
WATCH OBAMA. HE CAN DELIVER THE SPEECHES OF OTHERS IN A MOST ELOQUENT WAY. HOWEVER, IN DEBATES AND TALK SHOWS AND OFF THE CUFF REMARKS HIS PASSION IS NOT THERE AND HE CAN HARDLY GET A COHERENT STATEMENT OUT. HE’S A PHONY. HILLARY TALKS THE SAME NO MATTER WHERE OR WHEN YOU SEE HER-SHE IS DELIVERING HER OWN MESSAGE, NOT THE MESSAGE OF HER WRITERS.
SUPPORT HILLARY.
THE UNION IN NEVADA ARE SUPPORTING OBAMA BECAUSE I AM SURE THEY BELIEVE HE WILL LOSE THE GENERAL ELECTION. THEY KNOW THE REPUBLICANS WILL NOT DO ANYTHING AGAINST THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AND THEREFORE THEY WILL NOT LOSE THEIR UNION MEMBERS.
ISN’T LIKE THE AFRICAN AMERICANS TO RAISE THE RACE CARD ANYTIME THINGS DO NOT GO THEIR WAY-STAND UP AMERICA AGAINST THIS OTHER VERSION OF TERRORISM. THERE WILL BE A BLACK PERSON MORE QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB SOME DAY – BUT NOT HERE AND NOT NOW. IT’S OBVIOUS OBAMA HAS A DIFFERENT AGENDA-YOU WILL HEAR FROM THE REPUBLICANS A LITTLE LATER-THEIR WARCHEST IS GETTING FULLER AND FULLER. THE DIRT ON HILLARY IS ALREADY OUT-THERE WILL BE NO SURPRISES. AND SHE STILL HAS MOST OF THE COUNTRY SUPPORTING HER- THE REPUBLICANS SHOULD BE SCARED- ALL THEIR DIRT SPIN MACHINES HAS NOT DEFEATED THE SPIRIT OF HILLARY OR HER SUPPORTERS.
YOU GO HILLARY!!!!
After leaving a long commentary, I got a message that my comment is awaiting moderation. Is our speech being censured by the Republican owned media?
Only one works for NewsCorp – Clinton took 100,000 dollars from them, making them her 11th largest contributor.
News Corp – the largest news conglomerate in the world – boycotted Ron Paul from the New Hampshire Republican Presidential Forum broadcast by FOX January 6th – did you report this also, Reuters?
Their reason as stated by Brit Hume at the debate: “The five candidates we’ve invited tonight all poll in the double digits in the Real Clear Politics of National Polls” – hummm… Now, tonight South Carolina has their Republican Presidential Forum broadcast by FOX & guess what? Rudy Guilini got 9% of the New Hampshire Primary vote, Fred Thompson 1% and Ron Paul 8%… So, FOX is now going to include Ron Paul… What a joke!
What news source has the guts to report this – or is it like the fraternal brotherhood?
Helen Hunt:
I practically broke my neck nodding in agreement with your post above. I’ve been thinking the exact same things. In fact, tonight I watched Dan Abrahms on MSNBC and he did an EXCELLENT analysis of who bias the media has been against Clinton.
When I watch Obama at a campaign rally, I am inspired. But, that completely disappears when I see him in interviews and debates. Voters in the Democratic primaries right now have to picture him standing a several podiums (debating a GOP candidate) as well as in the ‘hot seat’ (like Hillary has been for nearly 20 years) to fully vet his abilities. He doesn’t hold a candle to Clinton. He’d make a fantastic VP candidate, but I think he’ll be slaughtered in a General election as President. Frankly, I think the right-wing media knows that and have been working feverishly to ‘edge’ Hillary out.
Hillary/Obama in ’08 (in that order )
why would anyone want to be HILLARY VP with Bill around.?
You have to be joking to think that the Hillary Clinton is more suited for any kind of Debate or run for the Presidency against a Republican than Obama. What universe are you all living in? Everyone in America knows Hillary (Senator and wife of a beloved re-elected President) and she won N.H. against a second year Senator by 3 points. The only reason this is even close is that John Edwards is in the race. Let me make this clear. The crying incident will work once. Once. I think Obama took the loss in N.H. and turned it into one of his most inspiring moments “YES WE CAN” When we look back in history the Presidents that are remembered most are those that inspired us and reminded us of how great we can be. The government doesnt fix things… we do. That is Obama’s strength. He is gliding on a totally different plane than Hillary. Just look at how many Americans have contributed to Obama in the new year compared to Clinton. Remember this, a President’s job is not to debate but to lead and inspire. We are living a truly historic moment in our history and you are missing out. I am not asking you to support Obama, I am asking you to open your eyes and ears and enjoy this moment which comes, if we are lucky, once in a generation…
Isn’t it a little hypocritical of the Clinton’s to have complained about a state level lobbyist supporting Obama when most of Clinton’s money comes from Washinton’s lobbyists compared to zero for Obama?
As David Axelrod, a top Obama adviser, put it, “I wouldn’t want to be on the anti-hope bandwagon.”
HELLO HELEN!!! LET’S KEEP THE HYSTERICS IN UPPER CASE!! THE MEDIA ARE THE FLIPPERS, NOT OBAMA!!! I have watched this closely – they are all over the place. Obama’s message has been consistent and coherent and points to renewal and quite a few radical changes when we need it (did you notice his speech on nuclear weapons?). He is a very skilled guy with a lot of integrity and direction. Hillary is an operator and is playing catchup most of the way. I’m sorry that you don’t agree.
The only Candidate that can beat the republicans Hands down is John Edwards!
the corporate elite are so afraid him that they have made these two coroporate democrat darlings and sneared at edwards in the process.
obama and clinton supporters..before you jump on your mantra……check the facts that you keep hearing from the edwards supporters.
i know it’s a harsh reality but you will eventually face it….wouldn’t you like to “change” before it’s too late.
like it has been with bush.
Dan, why shouldn’t african americans be proud of Barack Obama? John F. Kennedy and Irish Catholic who I campaingned for along with my Irish Catholic parents were very proud of being Irish and having JFK as a candidate for president. This was a very exciting time for catholics as well. The Polish people were proud to have Pope John Paul II . There is nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage. Race is being used as a skapegoat for peoples wicked jealousy, It is time to get passed the color of a mans skin this only shows ignorance and a conscientious stupidity. It is time for Americans to lead the way in judging a person by character and just for being a good human being. Why is it any time something good comes along, there are those waiting in the shadows to extinguish the “light”? Shame on them! thank you Dan.
