How wide is Google’s lead in search? ComScore market share data for U.S. searches shows the gulf.

Dec-07 Dec-07
U.S. core searches Share of core seaches
Google sites 5.6 billion 58.4%
Yahoo sites 2.2 billion 22.9%
Microsoft sites 940 million 9.8%
Time Warne Network 442 million 4.6%
Ask Network 415 million 4.3%

But a look at the reach of the top four shows a closer horse race. Nielsen/NetRatings NewView for December data measures online audience and active reach, defined as the percentage of active Internet users who visited the site or used the application.

Dec-07 Dec-07
Unique audience Active reach (%)
Google sites 124.6 million 75.5
Microsoft sites 123.2 million 74.6
Yahoo sites 114.1 million 69.2
Time Warner Network 106.3 million 64.4

While the business-media buzzed frenetically about Microsoft Corp’s $44.6 billion bid to buy Yahoo Inc, the erstwhile media-darling Google Inc began to acquire the status of a pariah, even though the company yesterday announce a modest increase in its income during a period of soft growth throughout the economy.

Google is our only hope to stop Microsoft from taking over the Net.
I would pay fee’s to Google if they would put a bid in for Yahoo.
Ask the net user’s who they want as a search site.
Netscape down one more to go is the plan I’m sure.
