Hey Scott, get a clue. "Why not complain to Microsoft because they can't play xbox games on a playstation?" You obviously don't have anything above cursory understanding of software and hardware and how they work together. From Apple's insistence that no other manufacturers produce OSX-compatible hardware, thereby keeping the price of their hardware artificially high, to their attempt to control the music industry with strict DRM protection, to this death grip on restricting other device's ability to sync with iTunes even though it's easily possible as shown by Palm, Apple has clearly demonstrated it's tyrannical business practices. What I find humorous is that most Apple "fans" pretend to be open source technology fans, when in all actuality Apple is the exact opposite of open source, vastly more closed-off than Microsoft or even Sony.

It's completely baffling to me why anyone would deal with Apple/itunes/iphone for reasons this article points to. It's no problem to get music, apps with flash, movies in avi format on many similarly prices devices.

Because not everyone likes the iPhone or ATT.. in my case ATT does not cover one of the areas in the country that I spend a lot of time. I think the iPhone is interesting, but ATT won't work for me.

I iPhone is showing it's age. The Palm Pre has a lot of nice features in its operating system that Apple can't quickly change. When I don't have my iPod Touch I like to listen to podcasts on the Pre. As for apps the Palm emulator serves up about 10,000 older apps. And the new apps are starting to arrive faster than they did on the original iPhone. (Tweed, Pandora, Google Maps, New York Times, AccuWether, etc. and my favorite game Sudoku) I like the smaller Pre size (without losing an screen pixels), ability to keep many applications open at one time, a real keyboard, threaded SMS, a nice camera with a flash, a wireless sync feature (that doesn't cost extra) and a unlimited data plan for $20 less each month that AT&T's.

Why would anyone buy anything other than an iPhone if they are interested in music, apps, etc.? That's the only game in town, and everyone knows it. Good or bad, that's how it is. Palm and the others either can't or won't develop their own smart phone community beyond phone calls, texting, and mediocre apps. Until that happens, it's iPhone all the way.
