-Best wishes to those following Apple's vision, including perfecting simple touchscreens. In a comparatively tiny industrial market, a partner and I introduced computer controls. The "experienced" workers were afraid of computers, especially operating dangerous equipment. We had to ensure they were confident it was very safe and simple to use; and yes, reaching out and simply touching an image to make a selection on a screen.

Good lord, people. It's an opinion piece about someone who just died that by any measure had a huge effect on the daily life of the world. Many people use Apple products because they are easy and simply work well. This doesn't make someone a "fanboy" and it shouldn't threaten your identity because you use a different product. You are not what you own.

There's a typo in the title. It should be: Jobs gave us computers without brains

I must admit, the author does sound a bit biased and touched on areas that a good journalist should not. But if he said anything that was not true, then please tell us.

Nice Post. I will print it.
After a few years, i will explain my kids that not all has been better years ago. ;)

I hope that hardware and software in Mac OS X will be still attuned.
Lion isn't. For me is Snow leopard still state of the art.

Every product has it's "Fanboys"… One of the oldest might be my grandpa. My grandpa bought last year a Macbook Air and uses it every day. He had never befor a Notebook and no PC experience; he´s 89 years old; try this with Windows Vista.

Be it the IPod, IPhone or my latest treasure the IPad 2, Steve Jobs made computing fun. I've always been a geek since the Tandy TR-80 but Apple changed the way I related to computers. There's nothing cheap about his stuff but shoot - it all works so darn well! My brilliant niece called it, "Being sucked into the Apple world," and she's right. I know my next desktop will be an Apple even though I'm dreading the price tag. When something is designed the right way, we'll pay more and Steve proved it. Meanwhile we'll morn a man who changed millions of lives. He's not one who'll be forgotten and most surely missed.
