Not sure the problem is the two-party system as the choice is pretty clear between POTUS candidates. The disaffection with politics is probably due more to the lack of competitiveness in Congressional and Senate races and the perception that parties don't need to be responsive to voters. Red-blue polarization is a party tactic to ignore most of the electorate. The media also panders to this polarization. As emm305 points out, what we really need are more competitive elections in more areas of the country.

This is why I gave up on Obama after his first 6 months or so in office. He's a great cheerleader, but a horrible player.

What is wrong with you people who are fixated on a 3rd party PRESIDENTIAL candidate???

Don't you realize the problem is in the CONGRESS (and, in the legislatures) ?

The solution to ALL our political problems, in states and the nation, is to enact non-partisan re-districting commissions that are mandated to re-district based strictly on population and geography, with the intent to make every district as competitive as possible. End SAFE districts and we can return to a moderation that will allow us to move FORWARD.

If there were a 3rd party candidate, here's an example of a platform that would really stand out against the Republicrat platform: http://petemurphy.wordpress.com/more-good-stuff/if-i-were-president/
