There are some good things about April Fools Day. It hasn’t yet been over-commercialized or over-sentimentalized, the season isn’t gradually expanding, and very few people expect gifts and cards. Best of all, nobody celebrates April Fools Day Eve.
On the other hand, so few people seem to bother with this holiday anymore. I guess there was a time when making people feel like morons was better sport than it is these days. Reuters had a story on Saturday about “mischief” in Britain, where newspapers invent outrageous stories to mark the day, but they’re not all that clever, or maybe you just had to be there:
