As General Sherman said, “War is heck”

What does Janet Jackson’s breast have to do with your aging grandfather’s emotional recollections of fighting the Nazis?

The head of PBS says the U.S. government crackdown on media indecency could prevent World War Two veterans from sharing their stories in an upcoming Ken Burns series. ”The War” features salty language from  servicemen, which could lead to crippling fines for the offending stations as a result of a new law signed recently by President Bush.

Janet Jackson’s breast-baring  incident at the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show  sent  shockwaves through Capitol Hill and spurred the bipartisan push  to boost fines for indecency violations.  As you were saying, Sarge, those gosh-darned Nazis were coming at you…  Here’s the story:

Its a shame that an eminent filmmaker such as Mr. Burns should have to fear that his work will be sanitized by the government. This is completely unnecessary given the fact that parents and individuals already have the TV ratings and content blocking devices that are necessary to make and enforce their own TV viewing decisions.
