When I start seeing pictures of the same thing turning up in photos from all over the world I figure it’s time to declare a trend, and that’s what’s happening now. All of a sudden, plain old glass isn’t good enough for serving drinks. As you can see in this picture, appropriate barware now has to be made from ice. I predict this trend will be short-lived, for several reasons:
- Ice glasses are no good for serving Irish coffee.
- Ice glasses are even worse for serving flaming Sambucca.
- Ice glasses aren’t truly dishwasher-safe.
- It’s only a matter of time until someone invents little three-dimensional squares of ice that can cool off drinks in a normal glass.

Sure, the price is reasonable but the carbon footprint of a single Bloody Mary is 6.3 pounds.
- Posted by John C Abell…on the upside, bartenders are less likely to use their “swizzle stick” to mix the drinks due to the temperature of the refreshments, and “tainted” drinks tend to melt their glasses before they can be served…
- Posted by Kwhy would you want your hand to freeze off?
- Posted by kailai think this is just an idea to try to get you to finish your drinks faster and then buy more.
Hmmm… three dimensional cubes? I’m not sure that I’d wnat that sort of “sci-fi” is going into my drink. Its simply irrational to cool a drink from the inside.

- Posted by Shawn HendricksJust another ploy to water down our drinks. And not even with sterno.

- Posted by Shawn HendricksJust as long as they don’t serve my mashed potatoes on a plate made of steak. On second thought
