Think “Rocky” meets “Million-Dollar Baby”

If there isn’t a movie here, then what is Hollywood for? From Thailand comes news that an imprisoned drug seller will enter the ring next month in a fight not only for a world boxing title, but for her freedom as well.

Siriporn Taweesook, who has already spent seven years behind bars, could be paroled three years early as a reward if she wins the WBC light-flyweight title. I think we call that a “motivated competitor,” and I’m guessing the best seats will go to producers, agents and screenwriters.

Picture the final shot: The new champ, her gloves raised in triumph, bursts through the prison gates to freedom, with fans cheering her on. Behind her, the prison evaporates like a bad dream in the steamy Thai haze. FADE OUT…

Or would you give it a different ending? Would you add a twist, making her opponent the central character, on a mission to clean up the streets?  Share your ideas via Post a Comment. Martin Petty reports:

…Kim had her doubts about whether or not she could win the boxing match (and her freedom)…but one thought of the hulking Big Bertha waiting for her back at her cell gave her the extra edge (and desperation) she needed to fight well…

The female prisoner knew she had to step her game if she was ever going to be free. Luckily for her, she had one advantage in fighting that her opponent never saw coming… she used to be a dude.
