A couple of weeks ago we had an amazing blog item about Samson Sor Siriporn, a Thai prison inmate who was going to compete for a women’s boxing title in prison. If she won, her likely prize would be early freedom.
At the time, I suggested this had enormous blockbuster slam-bang feel-good movie potential, and I offered a few vivid descriptions of how I saw it, but it turns out I wasn’t quite extravagant enough to match real life. For instance, I left out the glamorous transvestites in high heels and skimpy outfits who paraded around the ring with placards at the start of each round.
Anyway, the fight was today, Siriporn won, and prison officials said they were starting the parole paperwork immediately. Hollywood, if you want to start getting that check ready. Martin Petty reports:

It begs the question, how hard would I be willing to fight to regain my freedom?
