Why do you think “Birdman” is in quotes?

Li Xianfeng is wasting his talent, that’s for sure. He has a passion for making and flying airplanes, and he has been dubbed the “Birdman” by Chinese media.

He took his homemade plane out for a spin on Monday; it flew for a couple of minutes, then plowed into the fields outside Beijing, leaving Li in the hospital.

But here’s the thing. Li promptly declared his flight “partly successful. With an ability to present facts in such a positive way, surely he should be working for some politician or corporation as a spin doctor. Headhunters, go get him - he’ll be easy to find in the hospital for the next month. Just ask for the “Birdman.” Here’s the story:

His best quotes were cut:

“I was in the air way longer than that Wright guy.”
“Any landing you can hop away from is a good one.”
“I was ordered to crash to show superiority of Shenzhou 3 spacecraft.”

….So…if a man jumps out of an airplane and his parachute does not deploy…is THAT a partly successful operation? He DID land on the ground…just not in the way intended.
