Freeze! Drop the knife! Nooooo, not there!

A bare-chested Russian policeman lies on his back on a pile of broken glass and nails. A colleague drops daggers, point down, on his stomach and tramples on his chest. Other cops smash flaming bricks with their bare fists, and break wood planks over each other.

Welcome to the OMON, which I believe is Russian for “Kids, Don’t Try This At Home.” If you get invited to join up, politely decline and then move to another country. That’s what I would do, because my policy is to preserve my stomach as a dagger-free zone.

These OMON guys are proving how tough they are, so potential troublemakers will know what they’re in for. “This is a warning. We want to show off what we can do,” an OMON colonel explains.

Right. A few more displays like this, and troublemakers may have no competition at all. James Kilner reports:

Unfortunately, there’s still that whole, ‘crooks carry guns’ thing.

Pity the foolish OMON member who forgets his belly button.

What doesn’t kill you only makes you stonger. On the sunny side, what does kill you leaves a spot for someone else to get promoted!

No, Dana, it isn’t. The US isn’t the world. “Organised” is a perfectly good spelling in British English.
