I found 2 kittens at the barn I kept my horse at. Mom abandoned them. So I gave them to my dog who had never had puppies. She began producing milk for them.. Unfortunately, the kittens died from siezures 2 days later. My dog looked for those kittens for a very long time.

…and then there’s the horrifying story of the mouse that charged me when I was vaccuuming a closet in a house we lived in several years ago…

…not to mention the story of Smokey and his unfortunate demise when I was 7…that story has an eerie sort of justice in it…

It appears that this sort of thing happens quite often with cats and dogs. I’m waiting for the story about a giraffe raising lion cubs…or a zebra raising a walrus…or a crocodile raising an elephant calf. That would be interesting.

Seriously, though. My mother had a chow-chow that rescued a newborn rabbit (probably after eating the mother) and tried to nurse it back to health. The rabbit died overnight. I laughed at the dog and told her she was a failure.
