Oh, the streets of Rome are filled with rubble,
Ancient footprints are everywhere.
You can almost think that you’re seein’ double
On a cold, dark night on the Spanish Stairs

Those Bob Dylan lyrics are quite useful today to describe a guy who almost certainly was seeing double on the Spanish Steps. Anybody wondering exactly how hammered a human can get needs to look no further than Rome, where police have arrested a guy who tried driving his car down the historic steps.

The sweeping staircase, nearly 300 years old, is spectacular anytime, but it must have really seemed breathtaking, if a bit bumpy, to this guy, who took a wrong turn at the Trinita dei Monti church at the top of the staircase and made it pretty far down. Here’s the story:

It cannot have been much different than driving on Pennsylvania roads.

Mario was just thinking to himself, “I have this horrible sinking feeling,” when he saw flashing lights descending upon him in the rearview mirror.
