I see a news photo of a bathrobe, and I’m wondering why some terrycloth is newsworthy. It turns out, this is President Bush’s bathrobe at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, and we wanted to clear up those rumors that the President just checks into an Econo Lodge or someplace like that when he travels.
This personalized hotel robe serves a number of purposes. When Bush goes down to the coffee shop for breakfast, the robe lets him cut to the front of the buffet line, no matter how many times he wants to fill his plate. If he goes down the hall for a quick bucket of ice, the Secret Service can read that gold lettering and keep an eye on him.
And, let’s say his suitcase gets lost somewhere along the line and he doesn’t have a tag on it, somebody can open it, see from the robe that it must be Bush’s, and send it right back over to Air Force One!

It’s just a new merchandising ploy. I hear Bush has told the Secret Service to also pick a couple of “The Decider” towels.

With this special touch, they hope he’ll feel special, and that in his upcoming post-presidency, while he’s spending his time cutting brush, playing golf, and pulling down millions in speechifying and lobbying while still oblivious to the mess he’s made of America’s place in the world, he’ll look kindly on his stay in Jerusalem at the King David Hotel. It’s the small things.
