In a way, you have to admire the big dreamers in the knock-off industry. Are they satisfied to just make a shabby copy of a Rolex or Gucci and let it go at that? No sir, they are not!
In Italy, police have charged a gang of visionaries with making knock-off Ferrari cars for a fraction of the cost of a real one. It isn’t clear how they were selling them; the old image of the salesman opening his topcoat on a street corner to reveal rows of fake watches doesn’t seem to work.
Anyway, the police handout photo warns us it can’t be used for “advertising campaigns.” Huh? Are they afraid REAL Ferrari makers might try using the fakes in their ads, or are the knock-off artists so bold they might run their own Sorry Ferrari campaign? “Faux-rari, when only the finest fake will do…”
The interior a fake Ferrari car confiscated in Sicily, is seen in this handout photo released by the police on February 28, 2008. REUTERS/Italian Finance Police/Handout FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY. NOT FOR SALE FOR MARKETING OR ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNS..
