This guy decides to ask his girlfriend to marry him, so how does he do it?
- He gives her a $12,000 ring at home, with a cozy fire in the fireplace and a bottle of champagne chilling?
- He gives her a $12,000 ring at their favorite restaurant, over a perfect creme brulee?
- He puts a $12,000 ring in a helium balloon and takes it outside to hand it to her on a windy day?
Maybe you see where this is going. The balloon was last spotted drifting high over London.
Cripes! I’m surprised he didn’t suck in some of that helium himself and propose in a high squeaky voice! In our story, he says he feels like “such a plonker.” I’m not sure what that means, but it sounds about right.

So he’s a Plonker?! Is that some sort of Brit-speak for IDIOT?! Where I come from we would say his bisquits ain’t all done. Or he’s climbing fool’s hill. Or he was trying to fry up a chicken before he cut the head off. [OK, I just made that last one up, but still..]
- Posted by Dee TYeah, Dee, after some searching I found PLONKER in Webster’s Unabridged. It says: “(noun) Somebody who puts an engagement ring in a helium balloon and carries it outside on a windy day.” So I have to say, his vocabulary seems to be pretty impressive.
- Posted by Robert BaslerI think the girl’s to blame, not to guy. He tries to be cute and romantic, and admitingly stupid, and she won’t talk to him until he gets her a new ring. Granted, $12,000 is a lot, but she still seems a bit selfish. The romantic (if not pragmatic) thought that went into the delivery is much more importand the ring itself, and the guy shouldn’t marry someone who isn’t mature enough to figure that out!
- Posted by Z TIf I’d been her, I’d assume either he made the story up because he wasn’t mature enough to tell her outright he couldn’t afford a ring, or he was too stupid to realize that helium balloons float. Either way, it’s not selfish or immature to refuse to marry a fool like this guy.
