News, but not the serious kind

What’s the danged deal on this thing, anyway?

Blog Guy, I rely on you for most of my news on international relations.

That’s probably not a great idea.

bush-signing-face-160.jpgAnyway, I saw today that President Bush just signed something called the United States-India Nuclear Cooperation Approval and Non-proliferation Enhancement Act. What in the heck is that about?

Well, simplified, it’s an act designed to enhance the nuclear approval of non-proliferation cooperation between the U.S. and India…

Look, these folks have to seem like they’re making progress. So they get an old issue of TV Guide, staple a fancy cover on it saying the United States-India Nuclear Cooperation Approval and Non-proliferation Enhancement  Act, and they sign it. Most of the stuff they sign is just TV Guides in fancy covers.

Just look at the photo - none of them can even keep a straight face! Later, they will all share a bag of Utz barbecue chips and some Nehi grape sodas.

the author of this piece is an idiot. I see smiling people. They smile because they reached an agreement on an important issue. What else can one see into this?

Bravo Alan. I’m glad someone finally had the courage to speak up here. This place reminds me of ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’…. We can only hope Bob listens.

Tim… You’re just being part of the problem.

Whoa Alan, that’s very naive of you. I think he might be onto something, have you ever read a treaty like this? They do seem to be sharing some kind of inside joke.
I think all these deals are just a cheap way of getting free travel to exotic places like India……….well maybe not India, but other places.

Alan, if you knew the background of this issue, you’d realize that the first substantive agreement was signed almost three years ago, and the current “gosh, hopes this raises my ratings from the sub-basement” photo-op (notice the “afterthought” placement of the Indian delegates) is but, essentially, a ratification. It may not have been explained that clearly by Tim, but it’s surely the essence. Those are smiles of desperate hope, not of true accomplishment.

Hmm…. ‘News but not the serious kind’….. ‘not the serious kind’…

What do you suppose that means exactly?

I think it means, Bandage, that we’re all idiots for reading news that isn’t earth shattering. Duh.
