I just got a disturbing real e-mail from a Colorado reader who used to leave very funny comments, but recently stopped.
She said, “Bob, don’t give up on me. I’m trying my best to be everywhere at once.”
I hear this a lot, especially this time of year, and I can help. Here are things you can do to claw back the time you deserve to devote to this blog:
- Read less real news. If something big happens, you’ll hear about it eventually.
- Stop cleaning your house. I mean, are you in a contest or something?
- Do less for others. Seriously, enough is enough.
- One question to ask yourself: “Am I spending too much time in church?”
I hope you find these tips helpful. And remember, if you don’t have time to READ this blog, just go ahead and recommend it to others anyway.

Sure — I can do less.
- Posted by John C AbellThat’s the spirit, John! I KNEW you’d catch on right away!
- Posted by Robert BaslerI mean — I get paid either way.
- Posted by John C Abellwas this even worth the server space this page is using? Like this is obvious stuff. Can’t anyone think for themselves anymore? got to have some schmuck post on a blog for how to save yourself time? Humanity is doomed
- Posted by flinn@flinn. Yeah, but, Bob isn’t just any schmuck.
- Posted by John C AbellI am unashamed to proclaim my addiction to this blog. Not only for the witty satire of a much-to-serious world, but also for the comments other readers supply. I never tire of reading the complaints from half-wits who declare this the stupidest blog ever, nor the replies from people with half an ounce of humor.
Thank you, Robert Basler, for your satire. Please continue to annoy those who cannot understand.
- Posted by Addict. Thanks for the nice sentiments, Sis. We’ll see you and Herb on Christmas Eve…
- Posted by Robert BaslerStupidest blog ever…
- Posted by HalfwitHmm… let’s see. How am I going to save more time for Oddly Enough?
I could give up working. I mean really. Why should they get my attention for more than an hour or two a day? There are lots more entertaining things I could be doing. Maybe I could figure out how to make reading odd news a part of my job?
The cleaning house thing won’t work - I already gave that up years ago. Outsourcing is the name of the game here.
Who’s the guy in the poster? I’ve heard there was some big to-do this fall that was making folks all crazy. Does he have something to do with it?
John, you’re right - Bob isn’t just any schmuck. He’s our schmuck! How dare people take him seriously!
- Posted by FortunaleeI love this blog! I stopped reading real news a while back in favor of this blog, to keep me sane while I’m at work. You’re doing a great job, Robert Basler!

Yeah, he’s OUR schmuck!
- Posted by IkkuYes, thank you, Blog Guy, for this fount of wisdom in these difficult times. The reason I turned to you is, I recently tried finding three wise men, but the best I could come up with is three wise guys. As all of your readers could testify, the Blog Guy is a wise man, not a wise guy. And, don’t even get me started about my efforts at finding a virgin.
- Posted by Dr. DollI’ve decided that sleep is overrated and the time could be better spent commenting on blogs.
Thanks for giving my life purpose, Bob.
