Oddly Enough

News, but not the serious kind

I got a lethal joy buzzer, too!

I’ve blogged before about novelty gags and practical jokes, a sector that is pretty much recession-proof. No matter how bad things get, folks can always find money for humiliating other people.

That brings me to the intense competition for the record of “biggest practical joke,” which changes hands frequently.

You all remember that guy who waited under a parachute drop and pushed a 200-square- foot whoopee cushion under the jumpers. What a sound! Then there was that gigantic fake barf gag on New York’s Fifth Avenue…

It looks like the title may shift again, thanks to a rich jokester who lined up an entire Gurkha regiment on a training field, and then dropped the ground out from under them.

“It cost me $12 million to build that hydraulic trap door,” he guffawed, “but the look on their faces was worth it.”

It doesn’t make much sense to not have a video link to this story, as that would clearly be necessary to understand what you are on about.

It appears the Bob is going for the big practical joke here. Still, it’s possible the video would elucidate the strange ritual involving Gurkha trainees jumping over a line of colored balls arrayed along a strip of mystery material.
