News, but not the serious kind

It was a dark and bloody TV night

Mar 12, 2009 06:46 EDT

Blog Guy, I’m in Germany and I want to update myself on American television.

Sure. I watch about 21 hours a day, so how can I help you?

Some actors are here today promoting a show called “Dexter.” What’s it about?

It’s about a serial killer.

Cool! And who’s the hero?

The serial killer. It’s very dark and bloody.

Oh, I think I read about that. The guy is a teacher who sells crystal meth, right?

No, you’re thinking of “Breaking Bad.” That’s also dark. And bloody.

Ah. And the teacher also sells weed, right?

No, that’s “Weeds,” another show about regular people selling drugs.

Is “Weeds” the one with the doctor who’s a twisted addict and hates his patients?

No, that’s “House.” It’s very, very dark…

Sigh. And bloody?

How the heck did you guess?

I am considering putting on a TV Spectacular, where a High School chemistry teacher dies from his cancer, while his ghost continues onward, cooking up some delicious meth, selling this delicacy to an addicted doctor who has his patients all puffing on some reefer. Or eating such like in ‘magic brownies.’

That way, our overseas expatriates can catch up on everything television worthy, all in one hours time.

I know! I have been in England in the past, jonesing for the great TV shows that we all have missed so much!

As noted by some guy that did too graddiate from High School.

I can’t help it that I missed the 2nd grade, due to a little thing known as a stroke. Hence, I really don’t know when to use ‘who’ or ‘whom.’

Nor when to capitalise, and when not to.

Or was that ‘capitalize?’

Robby, my boy! Some editing whould help! Come on! You can do it!

I won’t tell any stories about you and the South China Sea. Nor about you and the mamasan. I will even leave out the duck!

Hows about it?

Your friend,
tim

Um, sure Tim, that makes perfect sense.

First of all, it’s televesion, so what do you expect. Treat people like the adults they are, not like children. Dexter is forensics analyst. Yes he is a serial killer, but he kills killers, and only killers that the police can’t catch. He’s a vigilante. House is a pessimist, but he still saves lives in every episode. Weeds is an utterly absurd show, but what’s dark about marijuana? Not much. And a teacher selling meth? No one that I know here in America even saw that movie, but I doubt that it’s as dark as The Dark Knight, which was an international blockbuster. It’s obvious that you, Robert Basler, don’t really watch American television, either for entertainment or as an intellectual critic. In fact I doubt you watch it at all. Maybe you should, it might open your mind up to the inherent relativity of perspective. Don’t even joke about watching 21 hours a day, it makes you sound incompetent. You shouldn’t begin a literary piece with that admission if you expect to be teken seriously professional writer.

I meant to finish: if you expect to be taken seriously as a professional writer. These iphones are difficult to use when its zero degrees celsius outside.

So, Basler, how’s that new one Bass ripped for you? Is it workin’ out okay?

Apparently someone whizzed in his Wheaties.

oddly enough, the first to be blammed about excess violence and stuff are the video games…
