Quick quiz: These smiling, fresh-faced kids…
a) Have been cast to star in a new Harry Potter movie.
b) Were accepted to the leafy New England college of their choice.
c) Are going to the senior prom together.
d) Seem to really be enjoying their murder trial.
If you guessed the murder trial you win, although the reason for the smiles is a mystery to me.
The two, Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, have been on trial for several weeks, and some of these happy snaps were taken as recently as today. Whenever we get new photos from the court, I marvel again at the degree of levity.
I hate to sound like an old fart, but back in my day being tried for murder wasn’t NEARLY this much fun. It kind of makes me wish I was them. Oh well, maybe not.

Who cares? How long were they in court for their “photo shoot”. You journalist are such morons! Do you know think that you get your smiling photos for a reason?
What is your point of your article?
I am sure many aren’t smiling about how dumb your article was. Most of the photos you see are when the attorneys are first meeting their clients for the day. I suppose the client should just frown and not be more positive.
For Gods sake, if you didn’t get a smile, I am sure you would report on how they don’t smile and therefore they must be guilty.
Robert….you are my tabRoid hero for the day you stupid fruitcake!
- Posted by STFWInteresting. My anti-spam word was “toast”.
Robert, you aren’t the only one who can’t believe how these kids seem to be having the time of their lives.
And don’t worry about STFW; you just met one of the suspect’s family/friends. While the hostility is overwhelming, it does help to explain the lack of decorum displayed.
- Posted by Just IceFor anyone who is interested in the facts behind the media spin, and who cares to learn more about the victim of this terrible murder - Meredith Kercher - there is an excellent discussion board

These online resources are not for profit. Anyone can read and/or participate and people from around the world do. They have followed this case since November 2007, and are in no way related to Amanda Knox. Nor are they her friends.
- Posted by Harry RagHaha STFW. You are a moron. This is a comedy blog, where Robert posts a witty, sometimes funny, story about photos found around the internet. This is NOT a serious news site, nor is it intended to even look like one. It says right at the top: “News, but not the serious kind.”
- Posted by MegaGo back to hunting for the pulitzer worthy articles…
They’re smiling because they’re NOT guilty, and they believe that justice will prevail.
They’re also smiling because they see their families in the gallery.

Um..der. How thrilled would you be if you were on trial for murder?
I don’t care who I’m looking at, I would be freakin’ out a little bit.

- Posted by Tom FOAthe 2 rosy losers pictured here are so banal & boring that one’s mind easily & swiftly moves towards advocating capital punishment in order for benefit of the wider, and completely underwhelmed, public. let us hang the mindless idiots & so, our will, shall be done with it…
- Posted by robThe photographers are only allowed to snap them when they first walk in or when they are leaving. That is also the only time they can greet any friends or family members in the court. That is why you see smiling.
- Posted by Truth TellerThe lawyers and the judges and prosecutors feel free to smile whenever they feel like it. Maybe you should yell at them? They’re getting paid. They have a choice.
Maybe it was their dream to become famous.
- Posted by PaulSTFW -if you want to post a trash comment and use words like stupid, maybe you should check your spelling and grammar!!
- Posted by rpagetAlas, poor Robert, when will people stop getting so serious about your silly little column? Personal attacks now and everything … no fun at all!
- Posted by BethThanks Beth. What folks don’t realize is that I get paid extra for each personal attack, so please keep ‘em coming! Death threats are even MORE lucrative!
- Posted by Robert Basler-Insert Death threat here- So Robert, how about, uh, sharing some of that dough? And Truth Teller, I don’t know what the rules are in Italy regarding photo ops in court rooms but I’ve seen plenty of pics in the US of people mid-murder-trial. Hopefully, for them, their smiles are of innocence. We’ll see.
