I don’t see as many parallels between the matador and the bull as you seem to. The matador volunteers to be there – the bull does not. If the matador is about to be killed, armies of assistants rush to rescue him – that isn’t true of the bull.

Plus, Hemingway was a silly boob who wouldn’t have recognized honor if it bit him on his fat belly.

Bullfighting is seen as a ritual and an integral part of Spanish culture. Ernest Hemingway said of it in his 1932 non-fiction book Death in the Afternoon: “Bullfighting is the only art in which the artist is in danger of death and in which the degree of brilliance in the performance is left to the fighter’s honour.”
The bull is not viewed as a sacrificial victim — it is instead seen by the audience as a worthy adversary, deserving of respect in its own right.
And a bullfighter is not so much an athletic sport as a the demonstration of style, technique and courage by its participants.
We should respect Evans instead of making fun of him. He shows skill and courage. We don’t know anything about him and making fun of him (in a blog, no less, that he will never even read) is unproductive and impolite.

Oh, how I love this sarcastic article! Well done. Unfortunately, this ‘bullfighter’ gets a lot of positive media attention in Great Britain, because he is such a curious ‘figurine’. I hereby ask all tourists to NEVER visit a bullfight, because with your money, you maintain this bloody industry. Thanks!

Dateline: Spain. Owing to the dearth of young bulls due to their massacre in the bullfights, geriatric bulls are being asked to come “out of the pasture” and into the ring again. Just to make things equitable, geriatric bullfighters will be their opponents.
