Officer, he was riding in a blue sedan…

March 26, 2010

Blog Guy, can you please settle a bet with my girlfriend? Is there still an Emperor of China?

Absolutely. He lives in a grand palace, and travels in a regal sedan chair.

CHINA/

But other people in China still use sedan chairs. I’ve seen pictures.

Not like this one. It’s huge and royal blue, and has many rooms. It is hoisted and carried by the Emperor’s personal palace guards, with their distinctive yellow helmets.

CHINAAs you can see in this photo above, ’tis a glorious sight to behold when the Emperor goes by.

Blog Guy, you’re a complete moron. That’s no sedan chair. The caption says these are migrant workers carrying a guardhouse to a construction site in Shanghai.

So that’s not the Emperor?

No.

And that wouldn’t be the Forbidden City behind them, then?

No.

Excuse me a moment please, I need to make some urgent changes on Wikipedia.

That sedan looks cool. I wonder if there’s a weight limit? I mean how do you tell someone who’s a little on the heavy side that the dudes carrying the sedan don’t get compensated for back injuries? Enquiring minds want to know!

Meanwhile, rickshaws are popular in Dublin now. I once had a ride in one.

I prefer the sedans I ride in to have eight cylindars and no less than 300 horsepower.

Or at least to be carried by eight VS models wearing clothing that covers no more than 15% of their body. And thigh highs.

Yes, there must always be thigh highs. :)

E, did you go in one where the guy cycles with the bench-like seats at the back? I always get very worried about sitting in one coz i think the guy wouldnt even be able to cycle if I sit in one….

Obviously I’m alone in the gutter here. :P

Shra, yup, those were the ones. The cyclists are really fit though.

:D

PilotGuy, I agree. One advantage of the first type of sedan is your porters cannot be unionised and do not voice their complaints vocally… and if they do, there’s always a repair shop around.

Sorry that doesn’t apply for VS models.

@Shra: I’d do it… ;-)

Well… I get scared anyways… He he he… Thanks for reminding me, unca! There is a pic of mine which I had taken in Copenhagen… of driving a rickshaw while my friend sat in it… realised later that she was more scared than me… she knew of my driving skills…. :P

Awesome – portapotties of the Far East.
What’s their motto – “Poo-etry in motion”?

@justM, that and you can go fast! However if a few VS models were carrying you around somewhere there would be no reason to be in a rush. :D

@E, my mind is always in the gutter.

E, I don’t know what part of Dublin you’re talking about but I’m currently in IFSC Dublin 1 and there’s no rickshaws. Plenty of cabs, no rickshaws. Mind you, with the number of cabs, I could probably convince a few to carry me and split the fare.

Dazed, they are usually on Grafton Street hauling tourists around :D

Ironically ‘rickshaw’ appeared as a word in my crossword puzzle today. Go figure!
