What the hell is my hand doing up here?

August 26, 2010

universe pose 490

There it is again.

USA/The lady in the photo above is Jimena Navarrete, who was crowned Miss Universe just a couple of days ago. The one on the right is another contestant, Miss Brazil.

Both of them are doing this wacky glam pose that I guess somebody thought was sexy 100 years ago, and it just never went away.

You know the one I mean, where a woman puts one hand behind her head for no apparent reason whatsoever?

Somebody help me out here. Apart from picking head lice out of her scalp, which for all I know may be how the pose began, what possible reason is there for that hand to be there?

My basic working theory, based on no research whatsoever, is that there is a spot in a female’s skull which, when pressure is applied, cuts off all thought waves and allows her to appear totally mindless.

pose grable 220Before somebody accuses me of being sexist, it’s just that I’ve never, ever seen a guy pose like this. If I did, I’d certainly steer clear of him.

I find it depressing, like a throwback to an era when vacuous was considered a turn-on in a woman.

I like to think we’ve moved on from there, haven’t we?

It’s okay, Jimena, you don’t have to press that spot anymore, so put your hand down and just be yourself. Jimena? Oh Jimena?

@RB: Well if you think they had brainwaves THEN you are sexist LOL sorry :P :D :D

But but.. do I care if they had the hand on hair as long as they are wearing what they are wearing.. the picture simply says “I have put my hair off my pretty face, so look at it as long as you like” hehe yummy thoughts.. ;-)

@fwd: Careful there, thinking the feminine gender does not have brain waves. I’ll have to set my blowdryer IQ to high heat if Shra doesn’t zap you!

Shra: Like the shoes!

BG: Strike that pose for a minute and notice the upper body muscles it lifts along with the hand. ‘nuf said? I prefer to think they are keeping their hair out of their eyes.

Must be all the sticky hair gel gluing their hands to their heads? Or, perhaps, bed bugs from the hotel mattresses are to blame…..

Why the hell is her hand there? Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn. I am not looking at her hand anyway. Am I right fellas? :D

And I agree with fwd, their hands can be anywhere they want as long as they are wearing what they are wearing. ;)

How the spam basket filter feeling today?

Thanks Spin, that’s very interesting. So if you’re having open heart surgery, it’s a good pose.

And finally, I am unbanned!!!!

Lol, Fwd! How does Mrs.Fwd control you?
Thanks for the shoe shots, Mr.B! Mwaaaaaaaah!!

The guys and their eye candy, eh?
Ah well… you know why swimwear models put their hands behind their heads now….

Sha, you weren’t excactly BANNED. It’s just that our commenting tool is linked up with Interpol and Scotland Yard, and when it cross-checks and finds a felony conviction… Well, let’s just take that off-line.

If you’re looking for a man striking that pose, try Jersey Shore. Or, steer clear of them.

I havent done anything illegal yet, Mr.B… God save you, if I do, though! I am gonna confess and tell them you told me to do it!

Scratchin’ at a bug bite, maybe? I’ve heard that bedbugs are on the rise in Vegas: http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2 007/Apr-16-Mon-2007/news/13297945.html
‘Course linking to ‘other’ news sources will probably get this post yanked.

Spin: at the end of the day, how many guys will have casually lifted their hand behind their heads, “just stretching” to see if it really makes a difference? LOL!

Mr B, do you really think men’s beefcake poses are less idiotic? How about the one that has the right elbow crooked and the fist turned out? Looks like a grotesquely misshapen teapot.

Posted by ladylala | Report as abusive

Watch it, Lala. That’s my signature pose.

I think it is a BO check… or an invite for someone else to scratch and sniff.

@Mr.B. – signature ‘prose’? Well, let’s hear it!

Posted by drgnbait | Report as abusive

Sorry Drgnbait, I meant POSE. I guess I let too many of my editors go on vacation in August. That’s just the kind of guy I am.

Posted by rcbasler | Report as abusive

I Know Mr B, it’s just I’d rather hear your signature prose than see your signature pose. :)

This tangent with guys posing like this creeps me out a bit. Though if you struck the pose, I guess it would be like a car-wreck… I’d have to slow down and look, but not be proud of it.

Wait a minute, Spin. Back up. We’re supposed to believe you went to junior high school? What the hell are you doing visiting this blog, then? Just slumming?

Sadly, vacuous is still popular with a lot of men.

maybe armpit hair was sexy 100 years ago, and that’s when the pose was born

I bet she does, Mr.Fwd! and you should know better than encouraging Mr.Pilot!

On second thoughts, encourage away… he has to move away from Mrs. You-Know-Who anyways… :D

@fwd.. woo hoo got a cold star! Good job buddy! :)

@SkimpyDog… thank goodness for the Venus razor then eh. ;)

@Shra…sigh..it’s day by day but I am getting better I think. I mean I only think of maiming Mr. Bloomycakes instead of complete annihilation these days. That’s progress right?

Posted by iflydaplanes | Report as abusive

You are doing very well, Mr. Pilot… ;)

Posted by Shra | Report as abusive

Spin, now now.. relax.. I am sure if he wants something done, he would contact us… not that I promise I will do Mr.Bloom any harm… he is kinda cute… in a ragamuffin kinda way…

Posted by Shra | Report as abusive

A scalpel you say? Hmmmm…..

Posted by iflydaplanes | Report as abusive

No, Mr.Pilot, now be a good boy and gimme back the scalpel!

Posted by Shra | Report as abusive

Yes Spin she is highly skilled in Stiletto Wearing. She is but one though and the OSU is many. And it’s not like Mr. Bloomycakes is gonna help out being the pansy he is.
