Cutest animals of 2010, O come let us adore them…

sweet animals top combo 490

Regular readers know this blog normally overflows with irony, sarcasm and the absurd, and is no place for sloppy sentiment.

Except where animals are concerned. Several times a year, I feature animal photos that I hope will bring a smile and make readers happy to be alive.

Today, to kick off my best-of-the-year series of blog posts, I’m bringing back a few of the sweetest animal shots of 2010 in case you missed them the first time around.

sweet animals middle 490

I hope you recognize the kittens that defined sanity, the penguin and dolphin that ended a cherished holiday tradition, and Bimas, the baby elephant calf.

Also the dog helping to raise an orphaned lion cub, the little bear who was too cute to be real, and the squirrel from the most shockingly shameless post of my career.

I don’t like picking a “winner” in this category. There are no losers among animals. Except maybe scorpions. And mosquitoes. Nobody likes those.

Meanwhile, for a good time, send these photos to your friends. If you don’t know anybody who would appreciate them, you’re hanging with totally the wrong crowd.

For an even better time, do something nice for a helpless animal, or at least for an organization that helps the helpless animals. Tell them the Blog Guy sent you.

Sometimes, the rescued animals rescue us. They open our hearts to find there is room for more love, kindness and patience than we ever imagined. And once, a baby watched a donkey’s ears, felt the warm breath of an ox, and wondered at the long legs and knobby knees of a camel. So I think there is something special about those who care for animals – whether they are dogs, cats, goats or pigs.

Thanks, BG! Now we see all hope is not lost in Krasnoyarsk.

Awwww.

Ohhhhhh.

Ooooooooo.

How cute!

This is definitely a great post to start a Friday.

First off, while indeed cute, that bear is also a ravenous, psychotic killer who is just biding his time until he grows strong enough to take down the likes of Andre the Giant. Look in it’s eyes and tell me you don’t see the rage. The bear has a grudge and that grudge is YOU! Bum bum bummmm….

Everything else though…awwwwwww cuuuuute! :D

Thank you for the cute pictures, blog guy. Your pets look adorable. I especially like the fluffy white dog.

Mr. B. I am gonna take a guess at your pets name starting top left going clockwise:

Lamar “Bone-crusher” McWoofy, Eugene “Cat-nip” McMeowmeow, Lonnie “Chill-kitty” McKitty, and Becky “White-fur conspiracy” McCuddles.

Am I close?

Posted by iflydaplanes | Report as abusive

Pretty darned close, ifly….

Too adorable to be snarky about (talk about bad grammar).

@Spin, 2012 presidential race featuring Sarah “Momma Grizzly” Palin vs. Andre “The Giant” the Giant!

Running mate for each candidate would be Yogi “The Picnic Basket” Bear and Jack “The Beanstalk” Johnson respectively.

I think they should start campaigning now!

Posted by iflydaplanes | Report as abusive

What do you have against Scorpions or Mosquitoes? They even have their own movies & rock bands! Who can forget The Scorpion King? Or Mosquito Coast?

@Spin: Only 352 days till V-E day! But sshhh!, it’s a seekrit!

Posted by AllThatJazz | Report as abusive

@Ifly – Sadly, Andre the Giant is currently deceased. If only the same could be said for Ms. Palin’s political career.

Posted by Nosmo_King | Report as abusive

@Nosmo, oh yeah that’s right. Ok..umm..how about Andre “The Zombie” the Giant?

As adorable the kittens are you gotta be watching the penguin. I am thinkin he’s is thinking thanksgiving feast-o-porpose. They have a rep to maintain the intel break in on the i-5 spot, madgasacar, and other highly documented video-ographies of said behaviors. I am just sayin watch the bear but do not turn your back on the over dressed birds when it is Jean day fridays”.

What, last week’s pandas didn’t make the cut?

Apart from scorpions and mosquitos, my Dad has a theory that noo-ne really likes animals that don’t have eyelids…

Mr B, if you ever get bored of top left dog…

Crazy Eddie? He’s yours, Crow. He’ll be on Air Wales Flight #222 tomorrow, landing whenever. I hope you have as much fun trying to calm him down as we have.

Posted by rcbasler | Report as abusive

Yay! I reckon a few days of high speed tractor chasing and he’ll fit right in. :) Thanks!

Now, Mr.Pilot, is there a reason that all of BG’s pets seem to be Scottish?? :D

Posted by Shra | Report as abusive

@Unca, oh no, the Death of A Thousand Cats! It’s pretty horrific. They purr constantly, rub up against you, swat at cat-nip. The cuteness is so overwhelming your heart goes into overdrive then plop..yer dead. The worst part is you get resurected as Catwoman and the leather outfit chafes.

@Shra, well adding “Mc” to a last name gives it an air of class and sophistication. Ya know, like McDuck or McDonalds.

There are going to be a lot more where these came from, now that we’re including shots of humans dressed as cute animals, too.
