Oddly Enough Blog

News, but not the serious kind

For dummies who read this blog…

July 28, 2011

Blog Guy, you run a fairly low-tech operation, right? I mean, there’s nothing complicated about doing a humor blog.

You couldn’t be more wrong. We do consumer testing, focus groups, FDA monitoring, all that stuff.

For a blog? What’s to test?

Everything. You see these dummies? We monitor their reactions to goofy photos, outrageous puns and other content in advance of using them in the blog.

Note this dude’s skull coming off his shoulders like a bobblehead. That’s not a good sign.

I can’t help noticing his pants are pulled down and he’s tied to a chair.

Yes, we try to pretty closely simulate our reader demographic.

And those dudes in the other picture with cards on their laps?

Oh, that. We tried translating my blog to Japanese to see if they would like it more. Strangely, it made no difference whatsoever.

Blog Guy, their faces don’t even seem to be capable of laughing out loud.

Yeah, they’re designed just to test my blog. What’s your point?

Never mind. One more question. What are you testing in that top photo?

Nothing. That’s just Lamar going out for fried chicken at lunch.

Now why on earth would someone pull a dummy’s pants down… WHY?
Unless the person dressing it has some weird fantasies or they were called away to do something much more weirder..
Being weird is paramount, so join the OE blog Network!

I resemble, I mean resent, that remark.

…and your two dogs supervise over this operation, right? I guess that explains why Dummy X267 referred to his boss as being a “b!tch”.

Hey! Are you sure those photos weren’t taken in my office?
Looking around, it looks just like that in here.

Lamar better not forget the single malt whiskey this time.

Having been in an actual car crash once, it scares me to see them :(

All right, Georgia, invoking MST3000, the funniest robots I know of!

The robots above can read, but I don’t see them talking like Servo and Crow. There also may be a business opportunity for someone to dress them. Wigs, tattoos, shoes, breast implants, another niche market could form.

Spin,
Good catch! Man, every idea I get is already used!

So that’s how they get the smaller dummies! Well, more products needed, then – cigars, maternity wear, Lamaze classes.

No Spin, I did not. The other item, about the daredevil sky walk in Toronto, did much better. Go figure.

“Yes, we try to pretty closely simulate our reader demographic.”

Beautiful. :) So funny, I’ll even let you off the split infinitive.

@Nosmo: you’ve got folks tied to chairs in your office? Not to mention hanging around in, or out of, their underwear?

I thought this was more of a duct tape crowd of readers…

@Onedoor, gotta change up the MO every now and then. Keep the authorities guessing.

Thanks, CrowGirl. I appreciate it.

I think the dude with the placard might be a zombie. His face is blank.

They really covered the full spectrum with the crash test dummies: zombie, pregnant teen, restrained pantless person, depressed person who only wears pajamas, escaped mental patient in blue scrubs.

BG, did somebody hack our personal info???

Posted by GeorgiaPeach | Report as abusive

Um, I don’t think so, Georgia, although there were some folks from a place called News Corps through here a few days ago, doing a survey….

BG – if they offer you a free cell phone, say NO!!!

Posted by GeorgiaPeach | Report as abusive

Oh, I know enough to refuse free gadgets, apart from that fancy taser I sent to Shra. How much damage could that do?

Posted by rcbasler | Report as abusive

HA! Nice try…I’m not answering that question. ;)

Posted by GeorgiaPeach | Report as abusive

Drat! I have to get some stupider readers….

Posted by rcbasler | Report as abusive

yet another thing we like about you, BG. You set your goals high.

What am I getting for Xmas this year BG? :)

Posted by Shra | Report as abusive

I don’t know what you are getting Shra, but I’m hoping for a nice insulative jacket to protect me from getting zapped any more.

Williams-Sonoma have those at $289.99 Dave.

You wish Dave.. BG sure would find something that really stings! Wont you, BG?!
