Abe! How’s life at your Gettysburg address?

August 18, 2011

Blog Guy, is it just me, or am I seeing lots of photos of Abraham Lincoln in the news these days?

Yes, I’ve noticed it, too. Most recently with presidential candidate Michele Bachmann greeting a Lincoln lookalike at a Republican dinner in Iowa a couple of days ago.

Bachmann? Isn’t she the one who offered a “happy birthday” message to Elvis Presley this week, even though it’s the anniversary of his death?

Yep, that’s her.

Well, anyway, Lincoln was a Republican, so I guess he’d feel right at home at a party gathering today.

Uh, yeah. Except he asserted Washington’s might over individual states, meddling with their right to secede from the Union, interfering with their slaves, stuff like that.

Oh. But still, the Tea Party folks are compatible with Lincoln on the subject of taxation, huh?

The personal income tax began under Lincoln. He needed the money to pay for a war to show the South that Washington could keep them in the country whether they liked it or not.

Oh, dear. Well, still, Bachmann seems willing to let bygones be bygones, with a nice warm smile and hug.

Do we have any idea what she’s saying to Abe  Lincoln here?

Yes, I believe she said, “Happy birthday, Elvis!”

In Maltese, “bahh” (pronounced with hard H) is a slang word for empty, or missing. I guess, if one pronounced Bach(bahh)mann as I think it should be, then her surname suits her.

Knowledge? Bahh.
Dumb stuff? Present…

Let the good times (rock and) roll.

Oh dear, sounds like she will gel well with Bush…

I have a horrible feeling she’s singing ‘Happy Birthday, Mr. President’, a la Marilyn Monroe.

It also looks like Shelly really digs guys with funky beards. Maybe someone ought to suggest she pay a visit to krasnoyarsk?
Preferrably a one-way visit.
Maybe we could get a special Basler Air flight for her?

Abe’s haberdasher must have lost a bet with her philologist’s cartographer who was in need of a good stove-pipe, so Abe got seconds
