I left my part in San Francisco?

September 19, 2011

Blog Guy, I always come to you for my news about the movie industry. What’s my favorite actress, Halle Berry, up to these days?

She’s shooting a movie on location in Glasgow, Scotland.

Ah, so I guess this is another Glasgow movie that’s SUPPOSED to be Philadelphia, like that Brad Pitt zombie movie you wrote about recently?

No, this is a Glasgow move that’s supposed to take place in San Francisco.

Wait a minute, Blog Guy! I understand suspension of disbelief as much as the next person, but how can the same Scottish city pass for Philadelphia AND San Francisco, which don’t look anything alike? What about San Francisco’s dramatic hills?

I understand all the movie cameras are being tilted to a 45-degree angle, to simulate the hilly streets. Also, they’ve altered Glasgow’s billboards to say stuff like, “Try haggis, the San Francisco treat.”

They’ve built an exact replica of the Golden Gate Bridge for use in some key scenes, and there is a fiberglass version of San Francisco Bay. They’re shooting everything in reverse, so the sun appears to be setting in the west over the Bay.

Holy crap!  Why the hell don’t they just just SHOOT the fricking thing in San Francisco?

Seriously? Where’s the movie magic in that?

Right: Berry looks round during filming.

Bottom right: Actor Brad Pitt smiles during the filming of zombie movie ‘World War Z’ in Glasgow, Scotland August 24, 2011. Some scenes in the film starring Pitt are being filmed in Glasgow due to its resemblance to Philadelphia, where parts of the story are set.

Halle Berry is hiding from the death panel… or was it Chuck Norris?

No Malt, it’s definitely Halle Berry.

Great news all! It’s International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
So swap the decks, ye scurvy dogs. Arrrrgh!

She doesn’t look THAT round.

Sheesh…Who writes these cutlines anyways?
“Halle Berry reacts….”
“Berry looks round….”
“Brat Pitt smiles….”

The copywriters need to start reading the OE Blog and maybe some imagination and creativity would rub of on them.

I think the Berry/Hanks movie is about computing and creating online maps.

Shouldn’t Ms. Berry’s scarf be plaid? And where are the Scottish, I mean Californian, terriers?

A wee shanty for ye, maties:
When I was one I’d just begun, the day I went to sea
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the Captain said to me
“We’re going this way, that way, forwards, backwards,
over the Deep Blue Sea.
A bottle of rum to warm me tum
And that’s the life for me”.

@Nosmo: While we’re at it, maybe they’ll film the next Pirates of the Caribbean in Glasgow.

Maybe Glasgow is trying to live up to the (non)-attributed Mark Twain quote about the coldest winter he experienced was the summer he spent in SF.

And for @Nosmo: Arrrrrr!

I humbly offer a haiku:

A clever headline
And funny riffs paired with pics
It’s the OE blog

Shiver me timbers, I thought they were filming in Glasgow, KY!! Talk about lost! They could film in my backyard. It looks like a dump. 😉

Haiku time:
While in Glasgow, do
As the Californians do
Windsurf on the Clyde

@Billl, that was hilarious! 😀

Other notable films set in different areas but filmed in Glasgow, Scotland; Under the Tuscan Sun, Beverly Hills Cop (all three), Philedelphia, and Good Morning Vietnam. For those of you wondering though, the documentary Life and Culture of Glasgow Scotland: A Documentary was filmed mostly North Dakota.

All true facts right there. The doughnuts swear.
