You can’t have a term, Herm…

November 3, 2011

So, Blog Guy, as a keen observer of the political scene, what’s your take? Can Herman Cain be elected president at this point?

No, he cannot.

Because of the….

Exactly. Because of his name.

Now I’m confused. His name?

Of course. What did you think I meant? Check out the U.S. Bill of Rights, and you’ll see that nobody named Lemuel, Enoch or Herman is allowed to become president.

Our Founding Fathers were very conscious of the image that names can project, and they wanted no part of a commander-in-chief named Herman.

This is precisely why the author Herman Melville and baseball player George Herman “Babe” Ruth never became president.

So that’s the only reason Cain can’t be elected?

Well, in my opinion he also makes too many air quotes and disguises himself with a hanky too often, but now maybe I’m just making it personal.

Look, stop making these terrible claims about my buddy Pizza Guy!
Those aren’t air quotes! He is obviously demonstrating how he can spin a pizza base on each hand, in order to promote his business, should the whole Presdential Candidate gig not pan out.
He may be cheesy and a little crusty, but he is a sauce of entertaining quotes, and is topping the candidate list at present.

We’ll allow a Millard but not a Herman?

His air-quoting looks more like he is suggesting that he is a viper and those are his fangs!
Dont mess with The Herman!

When the allegations of harassment first came out, I wonder if Herman Cain’s campaign staffers wanted to become Herman’s Hermits?

I guess that puts the Hermanator between a Barack and a hard place.

Can’t you see he’s actually showing the peace/victory sign, not air quotes? I vaguely recall a former US president doing something similar who wasn’t very popular – but it’s all malarkey to me as an Aussie! (Hey BG, is malarkey another one of your favourite words – I’m telling ya, I’ve been a _long_ time reader!).

PS Am I the new person you mentioned in your October review? I asked the question on that page, but there’s no answer… It’s totally cool if I am :) My bf will be so proud!
