Look, Bill! More flotsam and jetsam!

Posted by: Robert Basler

Blog Guy, all this election talk has me wondering. Whatever happened to those two guys? You know, George Bush’s father and Hillary Clinton’s husband?

clinton-bush-golf-220.jpgBoy, talk about a blast from the past!

I did some checking, and it turns out they apparently mostly make a living from beach-combing, collecting bits of stuff that washes up onshore, using metal detectors to find change in the sand, stuff like that.

In addition, I think former president George Bush picks up a few bucks driving VIPs around in a golf cart.

Every little bit helps to supplement their ex-president pensions of about $190,000 a year, I guess…

What’s the danged deal on this thing, anyway?

Posted by: Robert Basler

Blog Guy, I rely on you for most of my news on international relations.

That’s probably not a great idea.

bush-signing-face-160.jpgAnyway, I saw today that President Bush just signed something called the United States-India Nuclear Cooperation Approval and Non-proliferation Enhancement Act. What in the heck is that about?

Well, simplified, it’s an act designed to enhance the nuclear approval of non-proliferation cooperation between the U.S. and India…

Look, these folks have to seem like they’re making progress. So they get an old issue of TV Guide, staple a fancy cover on it saying the United States-India Nuclear Cooperation Approval and Non-proliferation Enhancement  Act, and they sign it. Most of the stuff they sign is just TV Guides in fancy covers.

Just look at the photo - none of them can even keep a straight face! Later, they will all share a bag of Utz barbecue chips and some Nehi grape sodas.

Blog Guy, didn’t President Bush address the United Nations General Assembly yesterday? Why haven’t I seen any photos or video of the event?

Hmmmmm. That’s a pretty good question. I just did some searching around, and it looks to me as though he gave the address facing the wrong way.

The wrong way? Shouldn’t somebody have told him to turn around? Wasn’t the first lady there?

Yeah, it looks to me like she was listening to her iPod most of the time. Just one of those things that can’t be helped, I guess.

Okay, but I’m going to keep looking, and if I find out this is more of your made-up garbage…

Macho, macho man, I wanna be…

Posted by: Robert Basler

Dear Blog Guy, President Bush leaves office in January. What does he plan to do? I thought with your contacts, you might know.

village-bush-2-160.jpgThere are lots of wild rumors out there. The most persistent is that there is a slot for Bush in the Village People if he wants it, as the construction worker.

That’s awesome! Wouldn’t that be a first,  for a former president to join a rock group?

No. Don’t forget that President Dwight D. Eisenhower was half of Ike and Tina Turner in their early years.

I can’t picture that.

Nobody could. That’s why Tina found a new Ike, and the rest is music history.

You know, your information is almost always wrong. Why do people read your blog?

Just to feel superior, I guess.

Honey, the President flicked me again! DO something!

Posted by: Robert Basler

Blog Guy, I see President and Mrs. Bush are watching the Olympics from the stands, just like regular people. That must be awesome, to sit near the First Family!

bush-face-crop-180.jpg

It depends on your perspective. I hear they can be kind of irritating sometimes. Laura Bush likes to tap people on the back and then act like she doesn’t know what happened.

As for the President, he’ll make mocking faces and flick the person in front of him, and then when they turn around he’s all like, “What, I’m the President of the United States! Would I flick you?”

Of course, if

bush-volleyball-2-140.jpgIt’s time once again for Things Maybe We Should Have Explained in a Caption, but Didn’t.

In the photo below, we’re told the President “playfully pats the back” of a volleyball team player, “at her invitation.”

Huh? It seems like we’re missing half the story here. If you’re not Barney the presidential dog, then how do you invite the Commander-in-Chief to pat your back?

Surely the Secret Service knows to intervene when somebody says, “Mr. President! Caress my latissimus dorsi!” If not, then they’d better learn before he visits the weightlifting team.

bush-crop-0808-100.jpgWhat did one President Bush say to the other President Bush at an embassy dedication in Beijing?

Me and Laura are orderin’ some Chinese carry-out tonight, Dad. You in?”

“Have you noticed how much Beijing looks like Peking, where you used to be the ambassador?”

“You think we’ll be able to get any sports on TV here?”

kim-crop-160.jpgBlog Guy, President Bush said again today North Korea is still in the Axis of Evil. Does that mean they’re all evil, all the time, or do they get a break on weekends?

No, nobody’s evil all the time. For instance, North Korean leader Kim Jong-il loves to entertain his troops with a stand-up comedy act, which is mostly impressions. Here he’s saying, “I think Roy Orbison in a safari shirt would go something like this…”

Apart from Orbison, Kim also does Babe Ruth, Eleanor Roosevelt and  Donald Trump. Of course, nobody in North Korea has ever heard of any of those folks, but they sure do seem to enjoy his act, don’t they?

Workin’ in the Cole mine…

Posted by: Robert Basler

Hey, Blog Guy - I’ve read that President Bush is a big fan of legendary songwriter Cole Porter. Is that true?

Yes. He even performed recently at an annual gathering of fans of the songwriter, “Friends of Cole,” though it was a bit embarrassing. Due to an unfortunate typo, Bush’s staff had brought along a huge banner with the songwriter’s name misspelled, as you can see in this photo.

Despite that mishap, Bush sang his Cole Porter favorites, like “I’ve Got My Eyes on You,” “Anything Goes,After You, Who?” and “My Heart Belongs to Daddy.

Secret Service tots: nothing rattles them!

Posted by: Robert Basler

bush_baby_sunglasses_crop_200.jpgBlog Guy, is it just me, or has the Secret Service started using younger agents.

You’re right. Due to a misprint in a Secret Service recruiting ad, the entry age for agents was cut recently from 21 years to 21 WEEKS!

An agency official admitted the resulting change has been rough. “We’ve had teething problems,” he said.

One of the new baby agents said a few rough spots were to be expected. “We have to crawl before we can walk,” he explained.
