U.S. Predator strikes cripple al Qaeda in Pakistan?

February 6, 2009

America’s ramped-up Predator drone campaign against al Qaeda in Pakistan’s northwest is starting to pay off, according to U.S. and Pakistani intelligence authorities quoted in a clutch of media reports.

Eleven of the group’s top 20 “high value targets” along the Afghan border have been eliminated in the past six months  Newsweek magazine reports, citing Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

The strikes by the unmanned drones circling high above Pakistan’s rugged tribal areas have been so pin-pointed that in one case a missile fired at a hideout in North Waziristan didn’t just hit the right house, but the room in which Mustafa al-Misri (“Mustafa the Egyptian”) and several other Qaeda operatives were holed up. the magazine reports, quoting a Taliban sub-commander.

A U.S. counter-terrorism official goes so far as to suggest that the CIA-directed strikes have been so successful that it was possible to foresee a “complete al Qaeda defeat” in the mountainous region , according to this report in America’s National Public Radio.

Is that stretching the gains,  a bit too triumphalist a picture?

Al Qaeda’s leadership cadre had been “decimated” with up to a dozen senior and mid-level operatives killed as a  result of the strikes and the remaining leaders reeling from the attacks, U.S. officials say in the NPR report, adding achievements of the past several months should not be under-stated.

“In the past, you could take out the No. 3 al-Qaeda leader, and No. 4 just moved up to take his place,”  NPR quoted a U.S. official as saying. “Well, if you take out No. 3, No. 4 and then 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, it suddenly becomes a lot more difficult to revive the leadership cadre.”

What has changed ?
One, according to Newsweek, greater assistance from Pakistani intelligence agencies who have finally started helping the Americans track and kill members of al Qaeda in the lawless frontier belt.

Two, there has been some kind of purge in the ISI, with 140 pro-Islamist officers mustered out of the agency since September, it quotes a diplomatic official in Washington as saying.

Another reason, according to NPR, is the introduction of the Reaper  hunter drone,  an enhanced verion of the Predator that can carry two Hellfire missiles, as well precision-guided missiles.

Time to declare victory ?  Far from it. Indeed these reports come just when U.S. supply lines to Afghanistan through Pakistan have again been hit again with the bombing of a bridge in the Khyber pass, and  Pakistani forces are struggling to regain control of the Swat valley from Taliban militants after a year of fighting. Why, even Peshawar, the capital of the North West Frontier Province remains to some, a city essentially under siege.

That doesn’t suggest a waning of militant forces in the region.

Perhaps the best conclusion you can draw is that the Predator strikes have had an impact on al Qaeda’s ability to strike at the United States, but the group is by no means decimated.

Bill Roggio, writing in The Weekly Standard Blog, says Taliban and al Qaeda control in Pakistan and Afghanistan has actually expanded since the 2007 U.S. National Intelligence Estimate which concluded that al Qaeda had  regenerated its network in northwest Pakistan and maintained a safe haven there. Here is a PDF of the declassified NIE.

“Despite Pakistani claims to the contrary, the Pakistani Army is losing ground in the northwest while NATO is still searching for the right strategy in Afghanistan, where the Taliban legitimately claim much of the rural regions are under their control,” Roggio says warning against making overly optimistic claims.

The #1, #2…you gottu be joking..its a group of militants..stop calling them organization and the illusion of #1, 2, 3..they would have been much more succesfull fi they were so well organized like a state military..CIA may claim they bombed AL-queda #2, #3 or what ever..its like fooling your self to look for bombing people who were leaders during gulf war..
They are a gang of fighters who act on their will, kidnap someone and ask for bukshish..or carry out a suicide attack on targets as per contract..
The advertising of Al-queda as a professional organized terror group by US has done more harm than anything good. Now there are 100s of groups like ULFA who took nspiration to start such dream militant groups all around the world. 1000s of youngsters who fascinate playing with guns have joined groups like Let.
As far as intelligence gathering by CIA for drone attacks are theyre..all they do is declare good amount of prize money for locals who give them info on where abouts of terrorists and rest of it are just glossy painting to the news done by media, pak army and the US in their own ways for their individual cause..

It seems to be a derivation of the marketing strategy “Take the war to others turf”. Bushes policies have made America safe, precisely by that philosophy. With Al-Qaeda and Taleban trying to protect its people in Pakistan, it is in survival mode i.e. “Stay alive to fight another day”.

ISI removed that many terrorist handlers? Good news… but what do they do when they are unemployed? Join them right? They should have been imprisoned… BTW I just heard the news that AQ has been freed… Is anyone thinking in Pakistan?

can we come out of this blame game and try to fix the problem … right now a country is violating the air space of another country ..just on the principle of might is right… America went to Iraq without the consent of UN and same is what it is doing in Pakistan it is not acceptable in any way and if they are justified to launch drone attacks any wherein the world just because some idiots banged themselves with the twin towers.. then they are supposed to be the originators and gainers of this complete terrorism menace.

Dear Sanjeev Miglani,
Al-Qaida is not some regional terrorist group that neutralizing some it can collapse. “complete al Qaeda defeat” in the mountainous region only may not mean al Qaeda Inc,. is gone. Yes the danger will be significantly low. To me it is simplistic to say “complete al Qaeda defeat”. This never happens unlike war between nations and one is never 100% sure or it will be like Bush’s meaningless “mission accomplished” situation.

This statement from some US official: “Well, if you take out No. 3, No. 4 and then 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, it suddenly becomes a lot more difficult to revive the leadership cadre.” is too mathematical and assumes Al-qaida leaders are waiting to be attacked and do not foresee the need to promote leadership (at other SAFER places in the world). Remember, Al-Qaida top guys are very smart and they are well known by US commentators to forecast on issues even unrelated to terrorism (eg, real estate- well before even US experts thought is going to happen). As you said Al qaida is by no means decimated. Their support network in the region has to go.
The questions are: Is Taliban has links with Al Qaida? Mullah Omar did have but does he has now. Is Baitullah Mehsud Taliban split from Omar? Omar will like to go back to his old turf-Afghanistan, but Mehsud’s Taliban appears to be focused on Pak. Mehsud offered help to Pak to fight against India. If at all ISI is having connection, are or were they with Omar and/or Mehsud.
The point is that in the past Taliban has played crucial role in the prosperity of Al-Qaida (Pak-Taliban connections were strong at that time). Obviously this Taliban-A Qaida link needs to be broken. Is US working on it? How sure is everyone that Pak (ISI) is not assisting any kind of Taliban? Sacking 140 pro-Islamist officers mustered out of ISI is encouraging, but what is going to be their fate. Retired army officers and ISI are known to train Kashmiri militants. There is strong reason that Kashmiri militants would love to hug these pro-Islamist officers. Will Pak make sure this does not happen? I doubt. All this tells me that US/NATO (US at least) can not leave this region because when the pressure on the lid is gone, regrouping will start undoing the $/men/time.

Hey Listen Ali, you WIMP.
Do not use Reuters as a site to spit the anger against the incompetence of your Pak govt. IDIOT it is not our fault it is them. Listen you SOB, if you are so jealous of India, you should have thought before 1947 and you would be living a much better life in India and not so angry at the world and not producing this hatred out of your keyboard– the toy someone gave you by mistake for insulting bloggers and religion. We are proud of our country PERIOD Honestly, your govt has turned your country into terroristan and you cannot stop it or perhaps are stupidly proud of it. Look out of the window IDIOT, Taliban is sitting outside wearing rags and carrying polished AK-47…lol You got reasons to do suicide (your criterion) or take action (I suggest this). You will do neither of this. Why? You have a severe case of BBS syndrome (lack balls, brain and spine)…lol.
Remember you said the other day you said “long live LeT long live Kashmir”. I am not sure that you are a terrorist or not but you sure are a terrorist sympathizer. Listen IDIOT, I say “death to LeT, LONG LIVE KASHMIR TILL ETERNITY AND PEACEFULLY IN INDIA.” Go to your LeT brothers training camp and beg them for a job. Calm down Rajeev

It was not Ali, it was Anitha who started. Anitha suggested Dr. AQ Khan was a nuke smuggler, well thats an insult. He is the hero of 170 million Pakistanis.

On top of that, Punjabiyaar wrote: “We don’t start it, but it seems like Pakis, whenever tested on logic they start abusing people. ”

Now what Anitha stated was not logic, it was utter non-sense. Did you see the language used by Anup and Punjabiyaar above? I could have responded with very abusive language but i didnt. Thats why I stated Anitha, Anup and Punjabiyaar have revealed their filthy mentality. Specially Anup and Punjabiyaar.
And you dont call Ali an SOB ok!!! what is their to be jealous about India? huh. Hey man absolutely nothing. I am proud to be a Paki. I am writing you from Islamabad and this beautiful city literally resembles Washington DC. Come over and take a look around, Pakistan is far from what you imagine. That explains and Ali had to accept the truth and not say that filthy stuff he gotten used. He might be living in some rough neighbourhood–but this is Reuters.

What PUnjabiyaar wrote was post-Ali. Damage done got response. and then you support.

If AQ Khan is not Nuclear proliferator why was he undergoing house arrest untill recently? and why is he sought by America and IAEC for his nexus with Libya, Iran and N Korea?
He might be your hero and to most Pakis but that is not changing the facts.
And i personally don’t think we are in a race with you on who is better. Coz no indian thinks of competing with Pakistan. We are competing with China and other fast growing economies. Remember that there is no P in BRIC.

Coming back to the topic, I don’t think the drone attacks will yield results. CIA might be taking away no 2,3,4,5 etc but still Terrorist fan following is growing. One Al Quaeda is giving birth to many similar organizations. Unless the ideology of hate and their sympathizers are destroyed there will not be any lasting victory.

Dude, if Western countries, as well as China can have nukes then why cant Pakistan? Why is it that the Western countries can have nuclear bombs & threaten weaker states at will, but a country like Pakistan cannot have nukes for self defence? Always remember how helpless they have made India, the likelihood of your country “doing a Gaza” on mine has evaporated owing to us having nukes. AQ Khan is a HERO & we will always regard him as such…his incarceration was a disgrace & I wish it had never happened.

Secondly, it must be remembered that Pakistan was growing at 7% the entire decade all the way till 2007…last year the growth was 5% and this year its forcecast to be 4%….which is not bad given that so many developing countries even in the Far East even have shrinking economies. Pakistan has no desire to be a superpower, but it DOES want to be an economic powerhouse…similar to South Korea i.e. smaller country but with a great economy. Right now our growth has been derailed but wait till things pick up again…we’ll be one of the HOTTEST EMERGING MARKETS AROUND!!

I strangely agree with your view on the drone attacks…violence begets violence & they are a symbol of a US administration clutching at straws to find solutions to problems that have overawed them.

We dont care HOW WE became a nuclear power, its the end that has justified the means.

How about you stop poking your nose across the border & start caring a little for the rights of Kashmiri Muslims? Look at this article from Amnesty International…

Thousands lost in Kashmir mass graves

18 April 2008
Call on India to investigate enforced disappearances and mass graves in Kashmir and Jammu
Hundreds of unidentified graves – believed to contain victims of unlawful killings, enforced disappearances, torture and other abuses – have been found in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.

Amnesty International has urged the Indian government to launch urgent investigations into the mass graves, which are thought to contain the remains of victims of human rights abuses in the context of the armed conflict that has raged in the region since 1989.

The findings appear in the report Facts under Ground, issued on 29 March by the Srinagar-based Association of the Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP). The report details the existence of multiple graves which, because of their proximity to Pakistan controlled-areas, are in areas not accessible without the specific permission of the security forces. Since 2006, the graves of at least 940 people are reported to have been discovered in 18 villages in Uri district alone.

The Indian army has claimed that those found buried were armed rebels and “foreign militants” killed lawfully in armed encounters with military forces. However, the report recounts testimonies from local villagers saying that most buried were local residents hailing from the state.

The report alleges that more than 8,000 persons have gone missing in Jammu and Kashmir since 1989. The Indian authorities put the figure at less than 4.000, claiming that most of these went to Pakistan to join armed opposition groups.

In 2006, a state police report confirmed the deaths in custody of 331 persons, and also 111 enforced disappearances following detention since 1989.

Unlawful killings, enforced disappearances and torture are violations of both international human rights law and international humanitarian law, set out in treaties to which India is a state party. They also constitute international crimes.

Amnesty International has called on the Indian government to unequivocally condemn enforced disappearances in Jammu and Kashmir and ensure that prompt, thorough, independent and impartial investigations into all sites of mass graves in the region are immediately carried out by forensic experts in line with the relevant UN Model Protocol.

Take ActionAll past and current allegations of enforced disappearances must be investigated and, where there is sufficient evidence, anyone suspected of responsibility for such crimes must be prosecuted in fair trial proceedings, with all victims granted full reparations.

“rights of Kashmiri Muslims”

Huh, how about rights of Kashmiri Pandits which had to migrate due to systematic murders by “Kashmiri Muslims”. If muslims were mishandled in India then remember there are more muslims in India that Pakistan, they are not asking for separate state. Its Pakistan which is playing the Kashmiris on Religion. But for How long ? Thats the question.

Its a matter of time when Indian Govt. ends Section 370 in Kashmir and it avails no Special status. Huge investments will come in Kashmir and Kashmiris will be part of mainstream, then you again have to revert to Open war. Once you start open war we will slice out the Baluchistan from you, remember Bangladesh.

Till then you can keep having Wet dreams of Kashmir.

If you don’t care about “how you got nukes” and “how you sold them” or “how you use them” then its time to consider “how you lost them”, If Americans stop the aid, will you eat nukes instead of Roti and Haleem ?

Since Ali, Hussain and Qasim are all small men from a very small country with small achievements and a small heart.

We of India will take the higher road. We will wipe the slate clean and try real peace with Pakistan, I mean sincere real peace.

Before India takes such a risky venture, a few things must happen:

-Smash every Madrasa
-Handover Daewood Ibrahim and all the other criminals
-Handover Osama Bin Laden to the U.S., we know you guys know where he is
-Smash the Terrorist/Jihadi/Extremist network
-Quit preaching hate in your schools against India
-Hand over Lt. Gen. Hamid Gul
-Hand over that dirty cheating double talking rat A.Q. Khan, he was a very Nalak Student in school by the way.

If Pakistan can deliver these things, we can share some Halal Goat together.

If Pak cannot deliver on these things, then prepare to fall on your own knife. We will give you every opportunity to hang yourselves with your own lies, deception and treachery.

We will not lose.

During the times of Mushy (Ali’s boyfriend—lol) as a President, an unfortunate incident happened (many, but let us talk about this). In the middle of the night Mushy got a call that the only factory producing condoms in Pakistan has broken down. [Why one?-- More population is considered better!]. Still Pakistan needed the stuff and this was a crisis situation since the supplies would be depleted in a day, leading to increase in population than the imaginary economic growth. Mushy needed immediate help, but was too embarrassed to ask the West—obviously, what a thing to ask for in the middle of the might from another country. So he thought what the heck, why not ask our Indian friends? He called and woke Indian Punjabi wrestler Dara Singh who he thought would help him out. Ali on the side, Mushy asked Dara in embarrassment “Bhaji, a situtation has arisen, can you help me out?” Mushy told Dara the problem. Dara said “Koi Gal nahi (no problem). We have multiple factories since unlike you gadhas, in India we use family programming to control the population that allows lesser kids but quality education. That’s one reason India is developing faster. But Mushy murakh, if you do not have good engineers to fix as a result of your poor education because of “more the better policy”, why not have at least 2 factories.” Mushy had no answer and got redder in the face. Dara said “Chaddo, how much supplies you need?” Mushy told Dara Singh some 1000s of boxes # of boxes and in all colors of the rainbow. While begging also, smart Mushy did not want to lose an opportunity and thought why not tell these Indians about Pakistani Mardangi and he said “Bhaji, send them in 11 inch size range, not smaller they’ll be all useless in Pakistan otherwise” thinking now these Indians would know the Mardangi of pakis. Dara did not blink an eye and agreed as a helpful peace-loving neighbor. Next day, the shipment was in Islamabad. Mushy went and open the box himself. It was in rainbow color and checked the size, which said in bold digits 11 inch. Mushy was happy and thought “ek goli se do shikar”. But then he saw in small letter under 11inch, written as “SMALL”!!!!!!. He told his boyfriend Ali who thanked GOD for smaller mercies and is now having second thoughts of visiting India with Mushi on his talk.

We dont HATE anyone but we do HATE the peopel that have bad things to say about our country wiithout any substance. I think personlay the opnly mini mi superpower india is full of liars I think they have top up degree in making things up and perfect prove is on theses blogs.

If Inida was so great??????

1) Why do we have Human Rights groups accusing India of mass murder in Kashmir valley and they are still finding the graves of locals innocent Kashmiris who were mudered in cold blood in staged killing.

2) Why is it everytime there is bomb blast the only people who get arrested are local indian muslims and harassed and put in cells.

3) India conducted elections in Kashmir but by putting every sepratist leader in behind bars that is a great advert of indian democracy.

4) Why do we have peacefull demonstaration the biggest ever in Srinager asking the indian dogs to leave our beautiful valley and the chants of AZADI – FREEDOM. Which wqas heared by all news media All round the world except the ears few idiots that do not want to belive anything that is truth because it hurts.

5) What happened to the cold blooded Hindu terrorist murderers who killed inncoent Pakistanis on the Samjuta trains? and the only think these inncoent civilians were armed with was love n affcetion and went ot see their next of kin…This speaks great of indian democracy where murderers killers as long as they are hindus can walk free on the streets of delhi n mumbai.

6) Whhat about the burning of the churches, mosques, killing of christians n muslims. Why is it that the minorites lack in education, infrasturcture compare to other fanatic hindus.

7) You indian leaders are the biggest murders who ordered the killings of Muslims in Gujrat while youur incomotent police and army watched by as mere spectators. Even to this day no one has been charged and I know what the idots will say investigateion is still on? The leaders of biggest terrorist organisation still have their power seats.

8) What hapened to tratement of the Dalits they are your hindu brothers if they can be treating like “untouchables”. What hope does anyone else have in this so called great democracy? Not much!

9) The capital of HIV disease thats what India is.

10) All you IDIOTS you can only TALK No substance!!!

Rajeeve yu say we lot ca NOT live without blaming anybody….I am sorry mate BUT it is the idnians who blamed Pakistan within 12hrs of the attcks. It is India that tries to frame Pakistan anything happens inside India. Lets assume Paksitan is behind it where are your cowrdless Inteligence, army, security services if they are that incompotent. Personaly I think you have NO rights to be a independent country at ALL!!!

Ali:
“What hapened to tratement of the Dalits they are your hindu brothers if they can be treating like “untouchables”. ”

Using of the word “untouchable” and practicing caste system is against law in indian constitution. These dalits enjoy more than 33% reservation in govt jobs. and in unis/educational institutions. There are Dalit leaders which are chief ministers of some states. Dalit leader Mayawati is dreaming of becoming PM.

FYI Muslims are also trying to get in scheduled caste reservation system (Trying to be dalit for reservation:-) ) and may be one day they will get it too.

You have absolutely no idea what and where india stands today. Keep you venom for some other day

Posted by punjabiyaar | Report as abusive

It is another thing having a law and implementing a law.. the law also gives indian muslims all the rights but are they ever implemented –NO

I mean look at Gujrat that was hindu terrorist gift to the muslims for being pro-indian first then muslims.

Go and tell your rubish stories to someone else.. and if as you paint that dalits get this an that why is respectable organisation like BBC always have various articles of the treatments of the untouchables never mind the other monorites which have no rights in your country.

Ever wondered why there are reports of Churches burnt, Mosques burnt people are forced to convert to hinduism lol.

Mate carry on defending because only person who defends if they know they are in the wrong. Anyway its agianst your idiotic mentality NOT to accept reality. Reality hurts just because you have managed to get a job in calll center and little two foot apartment in mumbai does not mean half of indian children are malnourished and cany even feed half of the country sop grow up.

We might be poor and living of aid but at least every paki is fed properly. I have seen your elite comandeos single pasli then what hope does a untouchable or a poor indian has fcuk all mate….

Mrs Bhutto is a legend, NOT only she achieved what many womens in the west dream of even in USA and we have proved Pakistanis are open minded other wise how to you expect a women to be elected prime miniter in mans world (pakistan).

In the history of Pakistan we have NEVER elected a mullah to lead us and thats a FACT. Which is living prove that Pakistanis are open minded and NOT what the idiots think who have NEVER been to Pakistan but been spoon fed by your biased STARNEWS which is worser then a cartoon movie.

Several questions are generated by the status quo in Pakistan, chiefly:

Why the Taliban and al Qaeda have been given almost uncontested freedom to train, re-group and re-arm in the FATA;

Why the influences of radical Islam have been allowed to actually grow among Pakistan’s populace;

Is the Pakistani government actually aligned with the United States or are they manipulating the realities of the conflict with radical Islamist aggression to their financial benefit.

As radical Islam prospers not only in the FATA but in Pakistan proper, and as the
Pakistani ISI maintains its working relationships with Jihadi organizations the likes of the Taliban and al Qaeda, the continued declaration by Pakistanis their nation remains allied with the United States and the remaining Coalition of the Willing nations must be questioned in the most serious of ways.

With no progress being made by the Pakistani government in the fight against radical Islamist ideology and jihad, but for the occasional arrest of mid-level terrorists, the Obama Administration must give credence to the reality that the government of Pakistan is a disingenuous partner in the conflict against radical Islamist aggression. To continue funding their alleged efforts in the conflict against radical Islamist aggression is to throw good money after bad. In this economic climate the United States can ill-afford to fund jihadi enablers.

@Umair,

Umair, Pakistan is like a street beggar with its food bowl out. Listen to this analogy: After he gets handed out food in its food bowl, he puts on some nice clothes in the evening, which someone left besides its food-bowl, cleans-up, shaves and tries to mix and shake with the normal everyday people.

Nighttime comes and it is time to return to go and sleep in the box. He takes off the free clothes and food bowl is empty. While he is dressed up, he acts cocky, lies about how smart and successful he is. But he has problems, he has rotten gums, stomach diseases, lies, steals from others to survive, kills other bums, cheats from others and at night when he tries to socialize, he always tries to convince people that he is from the middle class or uppper class, with his stolen clothes he is wearing. But what gives him away is his perpetually rotten stinking breath and the flies coming out of his mouth, I mean maggots. He never changes his underwear and when he comes home to sleep at night, he blames others for his problems. Despite his problems, he publically professes how great his life his and refuses to be honest with himself and the people he bumps into at night, when he goes out to mingle with normal people.

The normal people think,” oh my god, here he comes again”. His limp walk and stench always give him away, no matter what lies, stories, conspiracy stories he tells, his lies and bullsxxt cannot be hidden. Yet he gets angry if anyone questions him because he cannot handle shame and embarassment. He threatens people with violence, if they question him or poke fun at him.

This bum, is constantly drunk with self-delusion about how good he is, yet bitter at other normal people, and wants what they have for free, without working for it. He believes he is entitled to have anything he wants for free. He wakes up everyday hating others but never gives himself the chance to look into the mirror.

He can’t stand looking at his own face, therefore directs all his self anger at others.

These alqaeda or Taliban cadres have caused enormous damage to Pakistan, so if they get eliminated in drone strikes then good riddance.

Now:
February 10, 2009
Al-Qaeda warns India of new attacks
A top Al-Qaeda commander thought to have died last year has released a video warning India of future terror attacks similar to those in Mumbai, the BBC reported Tuesday.

Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, an Egyptian Al-Qaeda leader based in Afghanistan, also called on the people of Pakistan to overthrow their president and government, it said.

Yazid was thought to have died in the Bajaur tribal region of Afghanistan in August when Pakistani helicopter gunships carried out an offensive in the area, a haven for Al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters.

“India should know that it will have to pay a heavy price if it attacks Pakistan,” he said in the video.

Then:
12 Aug 2008
Mustafa Abu Al-Yazid aka “Sa’id” Al Qaeda Leader Dead.

Pakistan has announced the death of Abu Yazid “Saeed” al-Masri in the Bajaur region as a result of their ongoing offensive there. (The Reuters story specifies an “Unamed Official, but that’s normally how these reports come from Pakistan.)

The drones are a very safe way of killing Alqaeda ppl. But what about the innocents who die in those attacks too?? The deaths of innocents stirs up support for alqaeda too which results in counter productive actions. So drone attacks should occur only when civilian casualities r not expected.

Al Qaeda is a worthwhile target. It must be eliminated.
However as these attacks are on Pakistan territory, as a good ally U>S. needs to give full info to Pakistan’s ISI and then withy their permission conduct these attacks. ISI should not give permission if it thinks that innocents would be killed.

However as Al Qaeda is sheltring in Pashtoon areas where their supporters house them….not each individual civilan, woman or child around them is a real terrorist and their presence there is simply b/c their family heads (males) have given permission to Al Qaeda…..a Drone attack would kill these innocent too……..therefore a much humane strategy would be to use ground spies and then elite commandoes (Pakistanis preferably) who go in discguidec properly and target kill al qaeda fugitives thus avoiding loss of innocent lives.

I would suggest Muslim armies (commandos) from Jordan, saudia Arabia, Yemen and egypt should also be brought in to attack and tsarget kill these terrorist. These countroes have a responsibility towards their citizens…who are terrorists and thus their security forces should be asked to financially and logistically and man power wise contribute in this war against Al qaeda…Why just US, NATO and Pakistan.
